Really. No tie break vote?

Fine, I'm flipping a coin between A and E.

3 hours C, 3 hours F, dogs on E.

Nothing is found.

Day 4 has elapsed.

Vote on search locations for day 5 - pick 2 or vote twice on one.

A: There are two trees where there once were three (dogs come here)
B: A cave in a rock is wet
C: A sailboat sails into the wind every day
D: A sign that used to point one way points the other way now  (6 hours to cross it)
E: There are always more footprints at the beginning of a day than the end (1/6 chance that it is here)
F: Most dunes change but this one stays

Anyone want to +1 this plan? Because voting on plans is likely more accurate than voting on locations.

+1 over here. Makes sense to me.

The dogs search A while the other 6 hours are used on D.

Nothing is found.

Day 5 has elapsed.

Vote on search plans for day 6.

A: There are two trees where there once were three (1/6 chance that it is here)
B: A cave in a rock is wet (dogs, if the rebels are here the dogs can battle better)
C: A sailboat sails into the wind every day (6 hours to cross it)
D: A sign that used to point one way points the other way now
E: There are always more footprints at the beginning of a day than the end (1/6 chance)

Oh no, has this thread died in my absence?

I blame Madman198237 for causing this delay by driving me off the edge of sanity with Newscience some time ago. Updates are erratic in the best of times, and some RL issues combined with the fact that my every waking moment is plagued with nightmares of compressible water and slanted strata leave me with little time to do this.

Nevertheless, this thread is not dead. And you deserve to at least know how you did.

The dogs report that they smell something as they rush towards the cave. They run in, hungry for revenge.

A few minutes later there is a bang and explosion of meat as the lead dog gets its little fuzzy face blown apart by a shotgun.

The correct answer was B, and you won a 1-5 v. 6 dice roll on dogs detecting it. The dogs must now enter combat, having been ambushed and out of contact with the rest of forces.

However, this will not happen instantly. I have some intermissions to post first, which should be coming in a few days.

Mind explaining why B was correct, and the others incorrect? Other than that that is how it is, of course.

A: Sometimes trees die on their own, especially when they are near a body of salt water and salt can get in their roots rather easily.
B: On a hot beach, a place with shade, cover, and some water is a good hiding place, especially if you are wounded and cannot move.
C: Sailboats are sometimes used for recreation, and getting one to sail into the wind is not that hard.
D: Some signs are really light and can be blown around by wind, or there was a mistake and it was corrected.
E: Mornings are generally cooler, so some people walk on the beach in the morning, and by the end of the day their footprints are gone.
F: Pure coincidence.

These might sound like really dumb explanations. They were supposed to be. It's really a guessing game, the text is just to give you sort of a hint and make you think.

F: Pure coincidence.
...
You do realise that when your opponents have gravity abilities, the fact that a dune stays when all the others don't really should have been a sign that they're messing with it, or something. Say, the dune is a disguise for the entrance to a base. Coincidence is a bad reason.

Dunes are moved by wind. Wind is unpredictable. The size and position of dunes affects it. There was one combination of size and position that turned out to be stable over a moderately long term. Don't lynch me if this is bad meteorology, I'm not a geophysicist.

Actually, now that I think about it, it would have been likely that there was another gravitational anomaly underneath the dune. Hm. That's interesting.

We spent our 6/6 on that location. Tell us what we found.
