Hades' Star (mobile)
« on: August 10, 2017, 10:35:44 am »

Hades' Star was recently (Jul 24) released worldwide.  It appears to be available for at least iOS and Android.

Basically, it's like EVE-lite.  You colonize planets, shuttle shipments between them for money, mine asteroids for hydrogen (which is fuel for moving your ships), and search for red stars.  Red stars are stars about to go supernova, so you jump your ships in, destroy the guardian Cerberus ships and loot the dying planets for artifacts which give you blueprints to upgrade your ships.

The game is designed to be played in short bursts, as many actions take hours to complete.  Your cargo ships can plot out a course to deliver to multiple planets and can even automatically pick up shipments with upgrades.

Download is free with paid purchases in the game.  The only thing you can buy are crystals which are only used to speed up actions or to buy credits/hydrogen.  If you're patient there's no need to buy crystals at all.

If there's interest, then I'd be willing to start up a Bay12 corporation in game so we could help each other out.  You can aid corporation members on red star missions, and eventually you can build diplomacy stations to send shuttles to other player's star systems to help make deliveries for them (with a small cut of the profits coming back to you).

Careful about calling something an eve-lite, it tends to be wrong. Judging from your description, it is not an eve-lite at all. Judging from my initial playing of it, the only thing related to eve is its in space.

Judging from what I'm seeing so far, its essentially one of those "kingdom" like games, except in space. There does appear to be some elements that are not related to it.

Hm...on rails tutorial...at least it lets me ignore the skip waiting for upgrade part of the tutorial, I know quite a few other mobile multiplayer games tend to lock you into using that option, this game just causes the tutorial to pop up every so often.

Now onto the more serious question, regarding red stars, are they pvp or coop? The first non-tutorial one I visited I imediately saw another player jump a battleship with shields and two transport ships, so I thought there was no way I could beat that. Since you referred this game as eve I am under the impression that I would end up having to buy a new battleship and transport if I was to have jumped them in.

Well, admittedly my memories of EVE are a bit rusty, so perhaps the comparison was faulty after all.

There's no direct PVP as of yet, but public red stars do allow for other players to come in.  You can't affect their ships directly.  Although I have caused a few people to lose ships when I move my battleships to clear out some guardians and someone else starts moving their transports over to the planet.  I just pull my ships away before the guardians are defeated and they quickly turn on the other player's transports.

Skipping in regards to speeding things up takes crystals, but skipping in regards to moving doesn't cost extra.  Apparently the 10 second window before your ships move is to allow you to cancel the action if you want.

Yeah, I pulled it up to play a bit. The red stars seem like a race to me.

Is it possible to use red stars as fuel points? I know your limited on time so you only really have enough time for a single load before the level 1 collapses.

Better question, can you send more then 1 mining to a red star? I'm only asking because I found out the hard way that you can only send one battleship to a star.

I just noticed, you can salvage the artifacts instead of waiting to research them...that makes having that 2nd battleship a little more useful, 3 level 1 artifacts and 1 mining ship nets something like 170 hydrogen. So I would be waiting on the battleships to be repaired to keep doing them, unless I get unlucky and both planets on a level 1 appears a decent distance away from my gate.

I'd think so. You can send more than 1 transport through.

Hm...shields use hydrogen to activate, that poses an interesting dilemma of choosing between taking a bit of time for a battleship to be repaired and using hydrogen to cycle red stars faster.

Okay, started up a corp.  Look for Bay12 or Shakerag in game.

I tend to end up having my hydrogen maxed out a lot of the time.  My fleet size is 7, and I have two battleships, two miners, and three transports.  The shields become pretty necessary to avoid losing battleships as you go on.

The subreddit for hades' star has some good info in it.
Specifically, this chart gives the most optimal layout for your scanners.  The bit in the post about planet generation seems to be not correct though.

Even with just one miner I tend to be maxxed out on hydrogen.

Dumb question. How do I search for a corp or a player?

If the corporation is open to all then it will be under the recommended corporation. Otherwise we would have to be online at the same time and say something in galaxy chat to see messages.

Well then.  I'll switch the corp to open to all.  Outside of that, unless someone wants to try to arrange a specific time for me to chat in the galaxy chat it seems our options are limited.

Seems like Bay12 shows up in the recommended tab for corporations right now.  Of course, we've got some random people joining in now as well...
