Fluff:
Year 1:
This place... it is explored and probably devoid of anyone willing to listen to my words; though that may be more because of these cisharn warriors around this place. I need something outside of other influential spheres; my head hurts and I believe one of my kin are nearby, I must move. I hope this boat going to this Polynesia region will help clear my mind on the way; it will take an effort but they will let me move.
"Hail, captain. Would you be willing to allow a humble traveler onto your vessel away to your destination?"
"Do you have any coin?"
"Ah, not right no-"
"Then you are going to work on this ship"
"O-ok, I'll do my best, captain."
Much easier than I thought it was going to be but the captain is sure a hard-ass when it came to keeping the ship cleaned. Uneventful otherwise being a year at sea; perfect for clearing the mind other than the usual storms just rocking the boat.
Year 2:
"Thanks for the ride, cap-"
"Get off of my ship before I throw you off myself."
'Why didn't you try to overtake the ship?'
'I do not need t- wait who are you?'
'That is not important now; flee from this place and I will explain, soon.'
Ever try to run from a angry captain that turns out to be an ex-pirate? Not fun. The guy chased me as far as out of the immediate town before he gave up between the port and my weaving between any alleyway I could find that is not a dead end.
'So lets get introductions out of the way. I am Io and I reside in that arm of yours. You had not thought once after my forced invitation into your very being. Nor could you honestly with all the sensory overload from your 'birth' lets say.'
By this time Io had manifested a transparent form of a grey bi-pedal dragon with eyes deep as the void.
'I do hope we get along real well, with you being a Sindari.'
'I am assuming you read my mind enough to know who I am, so you know my next question as well'
'Indeed! You are a bright one. As for where and why, call it fate? I had honestly wandered the great void for what feels like eons before I slipped into your vessel. I do not know how it was done but I did yearn to leave the realm as had my other... 'children' before me. Fortune or not you are one of the magically gifted of your kin are you not?'
'You should know do not ask me something as silly as that.'
'Then make haste! We must grow a deeper connection so we can influence the world.'
Deeper into the wilds we had went, to an open field to what Io calls practicing his 'gift' to me being his gracious host. Immediately in the clearing he manifests in front of me in his now called 'spectral' form.
'Now, lets begin trying to deepen our connection.'
"How exactly?"
'Well from that left arm of yours, evidence of my mark, I can do a few things.'
"So what imagine your great claw swiping the area before me?"
Silence. Eerie silence. I believe I had 'hit it on the nail' but as to how. I had attempted a swipe from the claw but the wind only responded with blowing against my back.
"For a gift it certainly is not easy to use"
'Yes, well, most things that come from the void do not come without something as a trigger. For someone of Tempisti this should be something to come as a thought.'
"Might be easier to speak something like 'Slash of Io'."
'That is certainly one way of getting things right.'
During the year's closing, the patience I have runs out as I shift focus to a different spell craft; much to Io's displeasure. Little did I know I had actually made a mark on a tree's bark on the other side of the field.
Year 3:
'Manifesting a blade? How strange for a wizard to use a sword.'
"More lightweight than an actual sword. Besides flashy fireballs and thunder bolts are things mostly beyond my skill."
'So is a number of other things. Do what you will but be certain you do not waste all your time. I am going to go take a short nap.'
So with Io finally resting, I never thought spirits from the void could sleep, I try to focus on manifesting a short sword. The effort to put into even producing a faint outline of an actual sword drives as much madness as trying to make the grass become shredded mulch with this claw! Even halfway through the year Io congratulates me in making a outline of a short sword. I give and push to town after being in this blasted forest for two whole years of utter failure and frustration.
Year 4 and 5:
I had have to make efforts to acquire a few allies before the coming storm. Doing a great job so far with wasting 3 whole years. The locals here are nice once you get to asking the right questions or, with how my luck has been, become tossed into doing labor jobs. Nothing too much; things like helping construct a wall to keep the more rowdy creatures away from the town, actually going with parties to hunt a specific creature that terrorizes the locals, and even caravan guard duty. Though one time a creature of the void pushed its way onto this isle. It had decided to push ever closer to the city and since Io would not shut up about what he called a Kurama. Whatever that is it looked like a huge bat bird with claws and a long tail. Of course there was a call to arms once the thing ripped apart a civilian and was eating the carcass reported from an ambushed caravan.
We had a set of archers and warriors. I was supposed to be the one to go and draw the creature out where it last was.
'This plan of theirs... why follow it?'
'They know I am faster and smarter than them so they want me dead.'
'You are wanting the glory.'
'Stop asking me silly questions.'
Yes, the plan was to slay the beast. while the creature is something from the void; it is of the flesh, and Io assures me that since it crossed over it can be killed. Not that this creature was any special as it tried to physically dive at me after I was alone. It was a lackluster fight all things considered. I just drove forward and with my claw I put a nasty cut in its throat. That one dive took its life. after almost two years I was herald as a savior of a trade company and the people as a whole. I was able to finally eat well that night.
Year 6:
It became more apparent that the void creatures tend to roam around here. Perfect, this provides a great way to study them. If only I was not being drilled by the militia as a fighter; there was a lack of wizards according to the town mayor.
"Hold the sword in two hands and swing."
"Sir, this is a short sword. It is designed to be used with one hand for the most part."
"Yeah and I am telling you, SOLDIER, that you WILL use two hands LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HERE!"
'I am sure he would love to strangle your neck for being as much as an insubordinate as you are now.'
As training exercise began with the rest of the troops.
'Yes, this place is going to change after this I'll see to that.'
'That's the spirit.'
I could not wait for the year to end as the whole thing dragged on. Though Io has told me legends of a few mortals with using both magic and sword, being powerful and wise. I suppose that is where this is going to lead me.
Year 7:
After the one year boot camp I was able to freely experiment with a combat style. In following with my ever so great guide of my familiar I ended up being able to effortlessly switch between claw and blade against him. Of course he did not come to harm and I could feel my movements freeze around his spiritual frame; though the people that came to watch were thinking I was swinging at the air. Regardless this training was entertaining to others and met with some degree of hostility from others. Converting the people is never easy until you get a few more good slayings in or outlive them. Both I can do easily.
Year 8 and 9:
Shortly after that year had gone by, these years are going faster, I went and did a few good works for people around. Goes without telling Adults and Children alike are actually saying they are to some degree saying that they are 'honored' to have my services. I still did not get the easy jobs since a few other weaker random void creatures keep moving in from the place. Though many were coming from one place in particular. A cave. Io believed it was a gate. Obviously, after a few reports from civilians, I get sent in.
'Another day and I would think the intervals of creature spawning would increase.'
'What do you know of these gates?'
'Well quite plenty. Though this one would never let my smallest of 'children' to walk through. To us these gates are holes in the void and vice versa for your world. Not that any of us minded, we wanted a little light to brighten up the place. Though, like most curious of creatures that roam the void, some had slipped through and back exclaiming everything on the other side is lush with life! We could not believe it; life outside our own realm. Of course now many people have suffered our 'invasions' and many more actually killed by these 'invasions'. We all sat in the void for so long we wanted to stretch our wings. What did we care if we smashed a few villages or crushed a few forests. You, of all beings, should understand I mean; you are a Sindari.'
'I don't make efforts to destroy.'
'You have that luxury.'
'And what about closing it?'
'Hah, child's play. Toss a soul gem into the portal and it will enclose on itself.'
'Why would it open if a soul gem can close it?'
'Ask your kin, the Void Rulers have seen a number of your kin in and out though they tend to make impressively impenetrable pockets; if the Prying creatures are to be trusted on their word.'
Groaning at the prospect of a sacrifice of the people to close this gate I head out to ask for anyone who is willing to trust themselves into a gem. None of the folks wished to but those that were practically helpless were offered. I couldn't be picky but I did not like it either, even if the life was already wasted from its situation. After a lengthy amount of time trying to make a soul gem, Io is really helpful when he wants to be, we closed the gate and further coin and fame in my name.
Year 10:
With all the effort the townsfolk give me a small place to live in. With this year being uneventful, and with my plans being written up for this place, with a few blunders; everything is going just as planned.
Desired initial outcome:
Skills: evocation, short sword mastery, two weapon/casting mastery
Spells: Spell forge: short sword
Buildings: Personal foothold
Earnings based on fighting/weapon skill: 156 ( 52 + 52 + (52 x 2) + (52 x 3) )
fighting/weapon skill +3
magic +2
No implicit gathering a following efforts but just being on more friendly terms with the locals
