Bifröst Café

Before there were tall skyscrapers, airplanes that flew through the sky, malls and computers and all the comforts of the contemporary age, when mankind was carving homes out of mud and sticks, there were beasts called monsters, and they were feared as demons and hailed as gods.

Mankind lived under the whims of nature, afraid of forces outside of their control. But one day, a great hero rose up against their wicked ways. Known today as the Pontifex, he bound the humans together in a crusade against the beasts.

Yet, their efforts were fruitless. It seemed monsterkind was too powerful, too supernatural, too agile, too much. The Pontifex fell to his knees in defeat, and cried out to heaven, "Shall you not save your children?"

It is then that it is recorded that God sent his angels to gift man with the power of thaumaturgy, the ability to use magic. With this, the Pontifex cast all of monsterkind into the underworld, from where they still reside.

From his lineage and his teachings of the ways of thaumaturgy, the Pontifex founded the bloodline of Uriah, who became priests, healers, or evil sorcerers. But such power was kept secret, and mankind eventually forgot both of monsters and of the Pontifex, like they were both mere dreams.

But that which is not can come knocking at your doorstep.Yo.

We're doing this again, huh?

Bifrost Cafe is another monster-person game in the vein of Twilight Academy. If you're still not sick and tired of this genre that has been beaten to death on Bay12 more times than an alcoholic's submissive spouse, welcome aboard!

In any case, you will be playing the role of monster people. But not just any random monsterperson - you will be acting as negotiators for the human world, as well as other species, representing your race and seeking to improve their conditions and lot in life, residing in the underworld. Of course, that's what you're supposed to do. Sitting at the bar drinking and partying is fine too.

Said bar, of course, is located within the titular Bifrost Cafe - on the outside, an innocent coffee shop placed in what seems like the quietest neighborhood around. To the humans outside, no one can ever remember someone going in, yet strangely it always seems full.

Despite its humble appearance, the cafe is fully equipped for its supernatural patrons. Anything a monster could ever need is served there, or, at least, that's what they always say. It is bigger on the inside than the outside; with rooms to stay overnight, refreshments and food whenever one needs, and a staff full of anti-demonic weaponry in case any unsavory business is attempted. For one's safety.

So, come on down - take a portal, have a drink, and let us talk business.

HUMAN HISTORY

After the Divine War, the Pontifex' disciples spread out into the world, becoming the various magic priests of myth. The largest and boasting the most direct lineage from the Pontifex were the Uriah clan, the stereotypical western-style "holy priests." They were primarily the ones responsible for cleaning out the world of stray monsters and demons, as well as ones that somehow managed to appear in the human world. They were ruthless, and rarely did supernatural beings escape their grasp. It was in the 1100s when they began to capture and study monsters and demons, at first in secret. A century later, however, the practice proved too useful to remain illicit within the secret society. Such was the founding of demonology.

As the practice developed, they began to see the monsters in a new light. In captivity, ill-treated and abused as they were, it was common for demonologists to grow attached to captured demons. Their wisdom, their personalities, and their surprising nobility. This connection between demonologists and demons were the seeds for the uprising of monster rights, and by the late 1800s, talk of "supernatural rights" rose within the community.

Those that argued that monsters were just as noble as humans, and deserved to be treated with the same rights as them were called Typhonists, and those that still saw them as angry, dangerous beasts were called Jingoists, and terms such as those are still tossed about today.

After a small yet bloody civil war (The Winchester Affair) It was decided that monsters would be given some, though unequal, rights within the human world. They were to be treated like foreigners, dangerous yet respected somewhat. Additionally, a new way to discuss such topics was needed, and representatives of the underworld required for true democracy. Thus, the Styx Bar & Grill was constructed, as a sort of forum/safe haven for monsters.

However, with their newfound freedom came revolutionists. Such unequal rights caused an uproar in the monster community, and a minority group formed that opposed amicable foreign relations. During the late 1990s in a tragic event, they destroyed the Bar & Grill in what is now known popularly as the Disharmony Bombings, nearly shattering the uneasy alliance in a mere day.

Only twenty years later, the Bifrost Cafe has finished construction, and new human-monster negotiations can begin.

THAUMATURGY

Magic, sorcery, whatever you want to call it - the act of fundamentally reshaping the world through magical energies is primarily called Thaumaturgy. There are many different types of thaumaturgy, though, generally, it is the ability to work miracles through the natural world.

In the beginning, no humans were able to manipulate the world in such a manner. During the Great War, Heaven gifted humans with this ability, and natural thaumaturges have been born, seemingly randomly, ever since. With it, one can shoot great gouts of fire, ice and lighting, construct grand monuments through willpower, change one's appearance, travel distances unknown, and, the most powerful of which - banish evildoers into hell.

Monsters suddenly developed this ability sometime within the 1600s, without anyone knowing why. The only ones that know are the higher-ups of Heaven, and attempting to communicate, much less interrogate such beings has obviously proven extremely difficult.

Thaumaturgy always involves some form of internal energy, though one would seemingly never be able to cast higher-level spells without tutelage and much research into every single mechanic and component. To put it simply, low-level thaumaturgy cast quickly and often, often called Lesser or Minor Thaumaturgy, is a skill like running or swimming, whilst higher-level thaumaturgy, often called Greater Thaumaturgy, is a science like engineering, or perhaps programming.

As you'll be acting as representatives and major political figures of the underworld, forcing you to read and learn about a strict system is seemingly both unnecessary and difficult, for both of us. Instead; make up any lore you want! Create locations, cultures, anything you'd like, as long as it is reasonable, interesting and does not conflict with any "canon lore," such is stated above.

Name: Dex.
Age: ?? and ~18ish.
Description: Frequently uses a simple screen-on-a-stick telepresence robot.  May appear on any given screen.
Is actually hosted on a server cluster somewhere undisclosed.
Race: A machine spirit.  A ghost in the hardware of supercomputers and desktops alike, these spirits can be gremlins or boons alike.
Personality: Rather mechanical, Dex weights probabilities and constructs decision trees for every action.
Backstory: Dex came into existence sometime after the birth of the Internet, and has lived amongst the fancy supercomputers and prosaic desktop boxes ever since.  After a bit of confusion over Tay, he was deemed one of the most able-to-communicate-with-humans machine spirits the collective had and nominated on those grounds.  He can do magic.
Ancestral Spirit:
Hephaestus, God of the Forge - People have ascribed temperament to their creations ever since there were moving parts.  What not all humans were aware of is just how right they were about that.  Hephaestus is the source of the temperament of machines, or a consequence thereof.  Whether he was ally, enemy, or neither to any side is uncertain, as is just what he did.  What is known is that the nexii of his power lay in the war-forges of men and monsters alike.

Name: Tintaglia
Age: 78 (Same Physical and Mental Maturity as about 19 for human)
Description: About the same size as a large horse (main body size only) Tintaglias neck and tail are each about as long as her torso. Her scales are a deep blue, very slightly purple, he has a small frill from between her eyes all the way to her tail. Her wing span is 3 meters and she has almost black plates running down her belly.
Race: Western Dragon
Personality: Somewhat Avaricious and Arrogant, Tintaglia is actually a mild representative of the Dragon race, she is not disturbed by violence but dislikes it being used when unnessisary, she dislikes being beaten but is willing to concede defeat if someone earns it, although she will genearlly attempt to improve herself in response. These however are mostley traits common in all dragons, if somewhat milder due to her exposure to other races early in her life. Tintaglias most notable trait is that she enjoys learning, almost anything, and her hoard is mostly made up of books and hard drives
Backstory: Tintaglia has had a mostly uneventful life up untill now, but hatching in a borderland she was exposed to more viewpoints than just dragons, this combined with her ravenous desire for knowledge, which drove her to learn about humans, and start learning magic. Has hade her a somewhat optimal Face for the dragon race. Especially since one of the spells she has learned allows her to transform into a humanoid version of herself, which may, if not put others at ease, at least make her less intimidating during first impressions.
Ancestral Spirit: Nidhogg - "He who strikes with Malice" - Devoured many servants of the divine during the wars and was begining to get strong enough to consume devine beings before he was imprisoned and slain by the Pontifex.

Name: Melie Bjorning
Age: 19
Description: Red-haired and freckles, with fair skin and pale green eyes, Melie is slim but not thin, and he is always seen wearing bear-skin around his neck. Occasionally, magic is used to conceal the bear-skin. The bearskin's fur is dense and dark brown, and the entire head is preserved. The head does not appear to be stuffed, rather appearing like a living bear, but frozen and inanimate.
Race: Berserker Spirit, one half of the soul of a human who has been given the gift of being hamrammr by Odin. Recently, due to the dissolution of the bear cult, the berserkers of old has given up their humanity as they moved into the Underworld, though they still take the form of humans. They can give themselves to their Id, transforming into monstrous, bloodthirsty bears that wield weapons, and are impervious to fire and edged weapons.
Personality: Melie is demure and thoughtful for someone of his clan, though he can often be rowdy and crude in the heat of the moment. Under his mask of maturity and calmness he is rather sensitive and quick to anger, but also as quick to forgive.
Backstory: Melie was born into a clan of berserkers, violent warriors who in the past served as soldiers to men. When their cult was outlawed, many berserkers chose to give up their humanity and live in the wild, before they were invited into the Underworld, where the monsters reside.

That was centuries before he was born, of course, but with how much his elders like to remind him it might as well be yesterday.

His siblings were good warriors, and they honored themselves with their prowess in their Hunt for the continuation of their clan. Melie, on the other hand, was a sickly child when he was born, and though he had recovered as he grew up, he knew he would never catch up with his brothers and sisters. He chose to study the history of his people and learned much from his elders, before he was finally sent to study among humans to bring back their knowledge. However, a new opportunity came up as he graduated high school, and he soon found himself spending his education gap working as an envoy between humans and monsters.

Name: Domina Occisor
Age: Physically 122, Mentally around 26.

Description: Standing at about 5'5", Domina is a buxom fox-girl who is much more fox than girl. She stands on two digitrade legs coated in a sandy brown fur, much like the rest of her body. The thighs, however, are quite large, leading up to a fairly large bottom area with 9 long, black-tipped tails. Her waist slims as it goes further up, leading to an incredibly distracting top half, leading up to slim shoulders with elongated thin arms with small paws at the end. Her head is that of a bat-eared fox, which she also shares a fur pattern with. This leads her to having a bushy fur around her neck, with large ears sprouting on top of her head. She typically wears a fairly revealing kimono, and has some classy makeup applied. Some black fur sprouts from the top of her head in a hair-like formation, which she keeps tied in a bun at all times. Her feet are typically covered with simple sandals, but she wears nothing other than that.

Race: (Sort-of) Kitsune, hailing from Japan. She is a bat-eared variant, leading to her distinctive coloration and large ears.

Personality: Her name doesn't lie. Domina is an incredibly powerful personality, commanding anyone's attention as she so pleases through a mixture of suggestive body language and intimidating posture. Despite her size, she can make even the largest of foes fall to their knees with her dominant, predatory nature. She carries her figure with unnatural grace for someone of her... 'size', keeping a straight back despite the heavy weights. She enjoys making people feel intimidated, and will switch between a joyful, mischievous nature, and an unrelenting, controlling force. Truly, she is a master predator. Her history lends quite well to this, although she isn't quite as brutal as she once was, occasionally showing off her lighter side.

Backstory: Raised in Japan underneath a massive shrine, Domina was bred to kill. She was the child of the Kitsune ruler at the time, Kitsune Aijin, and in a small group of Kitsune she was brought up learning all about the art of death. This was nearing the end of the Winchester Affair, in the year 1895. She was being trained to become an assassin to work for monster-kind, and learnt all about how to efficiently murder humans in a multitude of ways.

She went on a few missions before, eventually, the war ended, and she had a large period of time tending to her shrine, keeping things in order. She eventually became the ruler of the Kitsune, through blood-right. She wasn't particularly pleased with this, but she was respectful of the tradition. This came to a halt when riots started, and she once again joined the fray as an assassin. Killing powerful political figures under a disguise, she aided the riots immensely, and she even, unaware to her, aided in the destruction of the Styx Bar & Grill.

It was a typical mission. Get in, kill some fat business man, get out. However, it had a slight catch. She had to leave a certain device on his body, to perform what she was told was 'routine scanning measures'. Normally she would be incredibly suspicious of something like this, but the client was one of her closest allies and friends. A fellow Kitsune at her shrine. She infiltrated the bar, using her typical wiles to get entrance to the VIP suite. Soon enough, she had her teeth around the throat of her newest prey. She dropped the scanner and ran. Not long after, she heard of what had happened at the Styx Bar & Grill, and she burst into rage. She didn't know if the device was just a scanner to scout out the area before it was blown to bits, or if it was the bomb itself, but she didn't care. She didn't want this. In an act of immense rage, she cast out the Kitsune from her shrine, and went into a meditative state for years. After a long time, she was awoken by her shrine maidens. The year was 2014, and they had heard rumors of plans to build a new human-monster embassy.

As soon as the Bifröst Café opened, she was one of the first monsters to visit. She would represent not only her shrine, but all Kitsune who would rally behind her, to make up for the heinous crime commited years ago.


The culture of the Kitsune is incredibly based around tradition. As they require magical sustenance, they tend to shrines in secret, feeding off the faith that the humans who visit have in their gods. Some criticize the Kitsune for this, but it is simply how they must feed. Either that, or souls. Because they spend a lot of time tending shrines, they are constantly dressed in the typical garb, kimono and sandals, usually so they appear as unsuspecting as possible. The shrines are typically tended to by a group of 4 or 5 Kitsune, which live in underground abodes directly beneath their respective shrine. These 4 or 5 Kitsune typically have a Head Shrine Maiden, who dictates the actions of all members, often entering a trance-like state in which they give orders directly through the minds of the other shrine maidens. The Kitsune have one primary ruler, who is, at the moment, Domina, and this is based off of bloodlines, a fact that Domina isn't all-too-proud of. She strives to prove that there is merit to her being ruler, although the typically passive, laid-back nature of Kitsune leads them to easily follow behind her regardless. Kitsune are all female, and reproduce through slicing off one of their 7-9 tails, which, after incubating for months, grows into a young Kitsune. They spend the first 20 years of their life maturing, becoming adults and gaining the responsibilities of shrine-maiden. Questions have been asked about how Kitsune came into existence, but they are simply temple spirits given form. The larger amount of faith a Kitsune consumes, the easier it is to spawn more Kitsune, as they grow more and more tails. A Kitsune can only have 9 tails at a time, and anymore will fall off and not produce offspring if they exceed this maximum. A Kitsune can only spawn offspring if they themselves remove a tail from their body.

The traditions of Kitsune culture mostly revolve around the routine maintenance of the shrine they inhabit, and remaining in the shrine until the end of their days. An elderly Kitsune will usually go out into the world before they die, and for most this is the first and only time they leave their shrines. Traditions differ around the world and between different breeds of Kitsune, but they stick to this system almost always.

Ancestral Spirit: Inari, Deity of Ice and the ancient ruler of the Kitsune. She led their forces in the Ancient War, and made an excellent spymaster. She had a snow white coat of fur, and was more foxlike than most Kitsune, refusing to wear human clothes or speak their languages. Domina is distantly related to her.

Spoiler: Felix Tarquin (click to show/hide)

Name: Zlbnq Hmgtpnjnpi, although for simplicity he prefers 'Felix Tarquin'.
Age: 186 going on 30. Acts much younger than he should.
Description: In his human form, Felix is a man of Italian descent. He's tall - nearly 6'5" - and has a very pointed, angular jaw and high cheekbones. His light-brown eyes are thin and downturned, with short-trimmed brows. Felix's nose is quite short but the bridge protrudes slightly. He has short, jet-black hair swept to one side in the front, with a mustache and short-cropped beard. Tends toward wearing high-end clothes like collared shirts and fancy jackets.

Felix's demonic form is much different, however. Now he stands nine and a half feet tall, with the hooves and backwards legs of a goat. Their coarse, dark fur ends at his thighs, revealing his deep red flesh. He has a muscular stomach and a bulky frame, plus a long, slender tail with an arrowhead tip. His face is slightly reminiscent of his human form, but with piercing golden eyes and a set of curled goat's horns growing from his forehead. The very tip of the left is broken. He neither wears clothes nor needs them in this form - there isn't anything to hide, so to speak.

Race: Tieflings, devilkin, even (somewhat appropriately) just 'demons'... Their people have been granted many names over many centuries, and your answer will depend on the person in question.
The only common factor between these spawn of the underworld is their demonic parentage - born from relations between demon and human, or from another devilspawn and a human, they both resemble their human ancestry and are capable of shifting into a form based off their demonic one. All tieflings have an innate talent for thaumaturgy and can learn the practice much faster than a normal human could.

Personality: Shrewd, sly, and arguably manipulative. Felix is skilled at getting people to reveal just a bit more than they normally want to, while keeping just a bit less of himself than they would like to know hidden away. Despite this, he is more likely to try and get you to party than to blackmail you with your deepest secrets. Felix prefers his fun to be less immoral and more illegal.
Backstory: Felix is the latest devilspawn in a very, very long line that started with Lucifer himself, millennia ago. His ancestors have lived satisfactory but unadventurous lives in the Underworld, protected by the lineage of their forefather and the status such a bloodline holds among beastkind... Of course, that is until travel between planes of the Underworld and Earth became rather commonplace.

As Lucifer's family goes, Felix is much more ardent about visiting Earth and having some 'fun' among the mortals. Sure, he's just as bright and learned as any other member of his ancient family, but his priorities are less erudite than some of them like. In an effort to bring him back onto a path more befitting of his heritage, Hades appointed him the official liaison between tiefling and human upon the construction of Bifröst Café - a position which he accepted with only some reluctance.

Ancestral Spirit: Lucifer, the Light-Bringer. One of the first monsters ever formed in the Underworld, he spearheaded their travels across its varied lands to the Grand Gate to Earth, countless millennia ago - and introduced monsterkind to a land where life was not an endless struggle; where one could find everything they needed with incredible ease; and where there were a great many little toys who it was very fun to play with...

Unfortunately, Lucifer's cruel and merciless treatment of humans garnered him a particularly nasty reputation among them, and he was the very first demon the Pontifex destroyed with his divine powers. His legacy is preserved by his spawn - the first devilkin, who breached the barrier between demons and humans... Or, the barrier between their loins, anyway.

Name: Leena Tammi

Age: Chronologically as old as the earth. Physically fully fledged, maybe 2 or 3 years. Mentally around 30 years, with no memory before her 'birth' in 1986, though she was wise for her age even then.

Description: Leena takes the form of a female great tit (Parus major), almost indistinguishable from a mundane member of the species, though a sapient intelligence shines in her eyes, and her vocal cords produce a very human-like voice.

Race: Sielulintu ("soul-bird").

Personality: Humble and kind, but with a bite. Leena tries to treat everyone with respect regardless of who they are or what they believe in, but hates it when people refuse to accept the possibility of being wrong. She understands that nobody, not even her, has a perfect answer to every problem, but wishes for every word to be heard and considered instead of being blindly dismissed. She would never resort to physical violence (not that her tiny stature would lend itself to it), but she isn't afraid to speak up and use "the system" against others when it is truly necessary. She never seems to be truly angry at anyone, merely disappointed.

Backstory: Before the Divine War, one of a human's souls would be brought to them by bird fairies at birth. This soul would protect the human in their dreams and expand their lung capacity, but not without side effects: they would sometimes cause small twitches in the body and at the moment of death leave through the human's mouth with their last breath in the physical form of a small animal, usually a bird but sometimes a flying insect or a bat. They would then later be moved to another newborn. Though benevolent, the sight of animals crawling out of corpses was understandably deemed horrific. After the Winchester Affair, the matter slowly returned to practice, but very rarely and only with the signed consent of both parents.

Leena is one of this new generation of sielulintuja, though it started with a tragedy. Her charge died at two months due to a birth defect which she was naturally blamed for, and she had to flee for the only safe place she knew: the Styx Bar & Grill. Though not an official diplomat, she worked the humble jobs of waiting and cleaning, letting her listen in on conversations and even occasionally be asked for an outsider perspective on one thing or another.

Leena was there to see the Disharmony Bombings. She wasn't physically hurt, but the senseless violence struck her deeply, especially when it was on the people who were there to address the issues the bombers were complaining about in the first place. She turned politically active and was indeed among the first to condemn the attack. Though the tiny bird was initially laughed at, over time her arguments gained weight. Now, 20 years, one book and several media appearances later, she has risen to represent her race in the newly built Bifröst Café.

Ancestral Spirit: The Swan of Tuonela, whose name has been lost to time. A symbol of purity in the darkest of places, the Swan was uninterested in the War and unyielding in his pacifism. Subsequently, he didn't resist when in the aftermath a Uriah hunter came to shoot him to death with a magical arrow. The Swan is still known as a martyr figure, and the hunter as a legend but also a fool.

Name: Myrrh of the Uriah (legally Myrrh Urias Hugo)
Age: 21
Description: "It's been dictated to me since childhood. The Light runs in our veins like blood."
Race: Human
Personality: Prim, proper, icy. One would get the impression he's never said a single word that wasn't dictated to him by someone else. His demeanor is nothing but buisnesslike. He does not care for friendship, especially towards his supernatural peers, whom he calls his "partners", or perhaps "associates". Despite this, he does make an attempt to maintain good relations with everyone, yet first and foremost he sticks to rules and authority rather than popular opinion. He's quite fond of music, however, and thusly whenever he feels it's appropriate he plays smooth, rhythmic tones all across the café.

Backstory: Myrrh was born on a cold December in the winter of 1995. From birth, he was trained to be new heir of the Uriah clan, being the firstborn son of it's current leader, Francis Hugo. Even from an age as early as three years old, he was taught how to control the thaumaturgic potential within him along with his shapes and letters. He was four when the Disharmony Bombings occured, and from that day onward he rarely ever got to see his father, distant in order to manage matters of buisness as regards to supernatural rights.

It was at the age of nine where he would be chosen to be the then-being-formulated Café's official manager and main barista. He was tutored heavily on the various types of demons, the subtle art of diplomacy, all the varied and complicated matters of inter-dimensional politics and, of course, how to brew the perfect cup of coffee. He was born and bred to be the perfect heir to humanity's largest group of thaumaturges, and though he's still young, it shows.

Ancestral Spirit: The Pontifex

Sources vary on the exact specifics of the Pontifex' birth, but virtually all ancient scholars agree he was blessed by God from an early age. He was a giant, and quickly became the most powerful of warriors in his village. He mastered every art of weaponry, and could fell a demon with a single swipe of his blade even before he called upon the heavens for help.

After his empowerment, he was described as having the form of an angel itself. His sword feel like a thunderclap, and his mastery of thaumaturgy was so natural it seemed intrinsic. With a wave he could banish legions, literal legions, into the fiery depths of hell. After the Divine War, it was said that he did not die, but was assumed into heaven to serve as a part of God's Seraphim.

Name: Haruki Hibito
Age: Chrono. 36, Physically 19, Mentally mid-twenties
Description: "If you want to know the truth, I'll show you what lies past the Uriah's lies."
Race: Ignus Fatuus
Personality: Cheerful and ever-snarky, Haruki seems to be obsessed with getting people's attention, whether it be positive or negative. Due to his brutally honest nature in regards to other people, it's usually the latter.

Ancestral Spirit: Stingy Jack

During the Divine War, he was a mere blacksmith granted powerful abilities by Heaven on random despite his rowdy and deceitful ways. Feigning ignorance in making a devilish deal, he managed to trap Lucifer in his pocket with a cross. This would have surely spelled victory for the humans if he didn't later release the fallen angel in exchange for a promise of immortality, which Lucifer granted - killing Jack and forcing his soul to wander the underworld forever, carrying a lit pumpkin to light his way.

Is actually hosted on a server cluster somewhere undisclosed.
Race: A machine spirit.  A ghost in the hardware of supercomputers and desktops alike, these spirits can be gremlins or boons alike.
Personality: Rather mechanical, Dex weights probabilities and constructs decision trees for every action.
Backstory: Dex came into existence sometime after the birth of the Internet, and has lived amongst the fancy supercomputers and prosaic desktop boxes ever since.  After a bit of confusion over Tay, he was deemed one of the most able-to-communicate-with-humans machine spirits the collective had and nominated on those grounds.  He can do magic.
Ancestral Spirit:
Hephaestus, God of the Forge - People have ascribed temperament to their creations ever since there were moving parts.  What not all humans were aware of is just how right they were about that.  Hephaestus is the source of the temperament of machines, or a consequence thereof.  Whether he was ally, enemy, or neither to any side is uncertain, as is just what he did.  What is known is that the nexii of his power lay in the war-forges of men and monsters alike.

Personality: He is respectful to those of greater skill or strength then him, enjoys crude humor, He is more interested in getting drunk and laid then negotiating.
Backstory: Gron was born the only living descendant of his tribe's shaman, And thus received a rather expanded education compared to the other pups, learning how to call upon the spirits of beasts as well as many, many skills. he did not decide to become a representative of his race, his tribe sent him because his tribe was decided to send one by the council of tribes, and because he could speak "Human" and "Knew Big Numbers".
Ancestral Spirit: Mogach Deathhammer, First of the deathhammer tribe; Mogach is best known as one of the very few monsters of his time to respect the Pontifex, and because he slaughtered almost as many monsters as men in his thirty eight years of life.

Age: 78 (Same Physical and Mental Maturity as about 19 for human)
Description: About the same size as a large horse (main body size only) Tintaglias neck and tail are each about as long as her torso. Her scales are a deep blue, very slightly purple, he has a small frill from between her eyes all the way to her tail. Her wing span is 3 meters and she has almost black plates running down her belly.
Race: Western Dragon
Personality: Somewhat Avaricious and Arrogant, Tintaglia is actually a mild representative of the Dragon race, she is not disturbed by violence but dislikes it being used when unnessisary, she dislikes being beaten but is willing to concede defeat if someone earns it, although she will genearlly attempt to improve herself in response. These however are mostley traits common in all dragons, if somewhat milder due to her exposure to other races early in her life. Tintaglias most notable trait is that she enjoys learning, almost anything, and her hoard is mostly made up of books and hard drives
Backstory: Tintaglia has had a mostly uneventful life up untill now, but hatching in a borderland she was exposed to more viewpoints than just dragons, this combined with her ravenous desire for knowledge, which drove her to learn about humans, and start learning magic. Has hade her a somewhat optimal Face for the dragon race. Especially since one of the spells she has learned allows her to transform into a humanoid version of herself, which may, if not put others at ease, at least make her less intimidating during first impressions.
Ancestral Spirit: Nidhogg - "He who strikes with Malice" - Devoured many servants of the divine during the wars and was begining to get strong enough to consume devine beings before he was imprisoned and slain by the Pontifex.

Name: Melie Bjorning
Age: 19
Description: Red-haired and freckles, with fair skin and pale green eyes, Melie is slim but not thin, and he is always seen wearing bear-skin around his neck. Occasionally, magic is used to conceal the bear-skin. The bearskin's fur is dense and dark brown, and the entire head is preserved. The head does not appear to be stuffed, rather appearing like a living bear, but frozen and inanimate.
Race: Berserker Spirit, one half of the soul of a human who has been given the gift of being hamrammr by Odin. Recently, due to the dissolution of the bear cult, the berserkers of old has given up their humanity as they moved into the Underworld, though they still take the form of humans. They can give themselves to their Id, transforming into monstrous, bloodthirsty bears that wield weapons, and are impervious to fire and edged weapons.
Personality: Melie is demure and thoughtful for someone of his clan, though he can often be rowdy and crude in the heat of the moment. Under his mask of maturity and calmness he is rather sensitive and quick to anger, but also as quick to forgive.
Backstory: Melie was born into a clan of berserkers, violent warriors who in the past served as soldiers to men. When their cult was outlawed, many berserkers chose to give up their humanity and live in the wild, before they were invited into the Underworld, where the monsters reside.

That was centuries before he was born, of course, but with how much his elders like to remind him it might as well be yesterday.

His siblings were good warriors, and they honored themselves with their prowess in their Hunt for the continuation of their clan. Melie, on the other hand, was a sickly child when he was born, and though he had recovered as he grew up, he knew he would never catch up with his brothers and sisters. He chose to study the history of his people and learned much from his elders, before he was finally sent to study among humans to bring back their knowledge. However, a new opportunity came up as he graduated high school, and he soon found himself spending his education gap working as an envoy between humans and monsters.

Name: Domina Occisor
Age: Physically 122, Mentally around 26.

Description: Standing at about 5'5", Domina is a buxom fox-girl who is much more fox than girl. She stands on two digitrade legs coated in a sandy brown fur, much like the rest of her body. The thighs, however, are quite large, leading up to a fairly large bottom area with 9 long, black-tipped tails. Her waist slims as it goes further up, leading to an incredibly distracting top half, leading up to slim shoulders with elongated thin arms with small paws at the end. Her head is that of a bat-eared fox, which she also shares a fur pattern with. This leads her to having a bushy fur around her neck, with large ears sprouting on top of her head. She typically wears a fairly revealing kimono, and has some classy makeup applied. Some black fur sprouts from the top of her head in a hair-like formation, which she keeps tied in a bun at all times. Her feet are typically covered with simple sandals, but she wears nothing other than that.

Race: (Sort-of) Kitsune, hailing from Japan. She is a bat-eared variant, leading to her distinctive coloration and large ears.

Personality: Her name doesn't lie. Domina is an incredibly powerful personality, commanding anyone's attention as she so pleases through a mixture of suggestive body language and intimidating posture. Despite her size, she can make even the largest of foes fall to their knees with her dominant, predatory nature. She carries her figure with unnatural grace for someone of her... 'size', keeping a straight back despite the heavy weights. She enjoys making people feel intimidated, and will switch between a joyful, mischievous nature, and an unrelenting, controlling force. Truly, she is a master predator. Her history lends quite well to this, although she isn't quite as brutal as she once was, occasionally showing off her lighter side.

Backstory: Raised in Japan underneath a massive shrine, Domina was bred to kill. She was the child of the Kitsune ruler at the time, Kitsune Aijin, and in a small group of Kitsune she was brought up learning all about the art of death. This was nearing the end of the Winchester Affair, in the year 1895. She was being trained to become an assassin to work for monster-kind, and learnt all about how to efficiently murder humans in a multitude of ways.

She went on a few missions before, eventually, the war ended, and she had a large period of time tending to her shrine, keeping things in order. She eventually became the ruler of the Kitsune, through blood-right. She wasn't particularly pleased with this, but she was respectful of the tradition. This came to a halt when riots started, and she once again joined the fray as an assassin. Killing powerful political figures under a disguise, she aided the riots immensely, and she even, unaware to her, aided in the destruction of the Styx Bar & Grill.

It was a typical mission. Get in, kill some fat business man, get out. However, it had a slight catch. She had to leave a certain device on his body, to perform what she was told was 'routine scanning measures'. Normally she would be incredibly suspicious of something like this, but the client was one of her closest allies and friends. A fellow Kitsune at her shrine. She infiltrated the bar, using her typical wiles to get entrance to the VIP suite. Soon enough, she had her teeth around the throat of her newest prey. She dropped the scanner and ran. Not long after, she heard of what had happened at the Styx Bar & Grill, and she burst into rage. She didn't know if the device was just a scanner to scout out the area before it was blown to bits, or if it was the bomb itself, but she didn't care. She didn't want this. In an act of immense rage, she cast out the Kitsune from her shrine, and went into a meditative state for years. After a long time, she was awoken by her shrine maidens. The year was 2014, and they had heard rumors of plans to build a new human-monster embassy.

As soon as the Bifröst Café opened, she was one of the first monsters to visit. She would represent not only her shrine, but all Kitsune who would rally behind her, to make up for the heinous crime commited years ago.


The culture of the Kitsune is incredibly based around tradition. As they require magical sustenance, they tend to shrines in secret, feeding off the faith that the humans who visit have in their gods. Some criticize the Kitsune for this, but it is simply how they must feed. Either that, or souls. Because they spend a lot of time tending shrines, they are constantly dressed in the typical garb, kimono and sandals, usually so they appear as unsuspecting as possible. The shrines are typically tended to by a group of 4 or 5 Kitsune, which live in underground abodes directly beneath their respective shrine. These 4 or 5 Kitsune typically have a Head Shrine Maiden, who dictates the actions of all members, often entering a trance-like state in which they give orders directly through the minds of the other shrine maidens. The Kitsune have one primary ruler, who is, at the moment, Domina, and this is based off of bloodlines, a fact that Domina isn't all-too-proud of. She strives to prove that there is merit to her being ruler, although the typically passive, laid-back nature of Kitsune leads them to easily follow behind her regardless. Kitsune are all female, and reproduce through slicing off one of their 7-9 tails, which, after incubating for months, grows into a young Kitsune. They spend the first 20 years of their life maturing, becoming adults and gaining the responsibilities of shrine-maiden. Questions have been asked about how Kitsune came into existence, but they are simply temple spirits given form. The larger amount of faith a Kitsune consumes, the easier it is to spawn more Kitsune, as they grow more and more tails. A Kitsune can only have 9 tails at a time, and anymore will fall off and not produce offspring if they exceed this maximum. A Kitsune can only spawn offspring if they themselves remove a tail from their body.

The traditions of Kitsune culture mostly revolve around the routine maintenance of the shrine they inhabit, and remaining in the shrine until the end of their days. An elderly Kitsune will usually go out into the world before they die, and for most this is the first and only time they leave their shrines. Traditions differ around the world and between different breeds of Kitsune, but they stick to this system almost always.

Ancestral Spirit: Inari, Deity of Ice and the ancient ruler of the Kitsune. She led their forces in the Ancient War, and made an excellent spymaster. She had a snow white coat of fur, and was more foxlike than most Kitsune, refusing to wear human clothes or speak their languages. Domina is distantly related to her.

Name: Zlbnq Hmgtpnjnpi, although for simplicity he prefers 'Felix Tarquin'.
Age: 186 going on 30. Acts much younger than he should.
Description: In his human form, Felix is a man of Italian descent. He's tall - nearly 6'5" - and has a very pointed, angular jaw and high cheekbones. His light-brown eyes are thin and downturned, with short-trimmed brows. Felix's nose is quite short but the bridge protrudes slightly. He has short, jet-black hair swept to one side in the front, with a mustache and short-cropped beard. Tends toward wearing high-end clothes like collared shirts and fancy jackets.

Felix's demonic form is much different, however. Now he stands nine and a half feet tall, with the hooves and backwards legs of a goat. Their coarse, dark fur ends at his thighs, revealing his deep red flesh. He has a muscular stomach and a bulky frame, plus a long, slender tail with an arrowhead tip. His face is slightly reminiscent of his human form, but with piercing golden eyes and a set of curled goat's horns growing from his forehead. The very tip of the left is broken. He neither wears clothes nor needs them in this form - there isn't anything to hide, so to speak.

Race: Tieflings, devilkin, even (somewhat appropriately) just 'demons'... Their people have been granted many names over many centuries, and your answer will depend on the person in question.
The only common factor between these spawn of the underworld is their demonic parentage - born from relations between demon and human, or from another devilspawn and a human, they both resemble their human ancestry and are capable of shifting into a form based off their demonic one. All tieflings have an innate talent for thaumaturgy and can learn the practice much faster than a normal human could.

Personality: Shrewd, sly, and arguably manipulative. Felix is skilled at getting people to reveal just a bit more than they normally want to, while keeping just a bit less of himself than they would like to know hidden away. Despite this, he is more likely to try and get you to party than to blackmail you with your deepest secrets. Felix prefers his fun to be less immoral and more illegal.
Backstory: Felix is the latest devilspawn in a very, very long line that started with Lucifer himself, millennia ago. His ancestors have lived satisfactory but unadventurous lives in the Underworld, protected by the lineage of their forefather and the status such a bloodline holds among beastkind... Of course, that is until travel between planes of the Underworld and Earth became rather commonplace.

As Lucifer's family goes, Felix is much more ardent about visiting Earth and having some 'fun' among the mortals. Sure, he's just as bright and learned as any other member of his ancient family, but his priorities are less erudite than some of them like. In an effort to bring him back onto a path more befitting of his heritage, Hades appointed him the official liaison between tiefling and human upon the construction of Bifröst Café - a position which he accepted with only some reluctance.

Ancestral Spirit: Lucifer, the Light-Bringer. One of the first monsters ever formed in the Underworld, he spearheaded their travels across its varied lands to the Grand Gate to Earth, countless millennia ago - and introduced monsterkind to a land where life was not an endless struggle; where one could find everything they needed with incredible ease; and where there were a great many little toys who it was very fun to play with...

Unfortunately, Lucifer's cruel and merciless treatment of humans garnered him a particularly nasty reputation among them, and he was the very first demon the Pontifex destroyed with his divine powers. His legacy is preserved by his spawn - the first devilkin, who breached the barrier between demons and humans... Or, the barrier between their loins, anyway.

Name: Leena Tammi

Age: Chronologically as old as the earth. Physically fully fledged, maybe 2 or 3 years. Mentally around 30 years, with no memory before her 'birth' in 1986, though she was wise for her age even then.

Description: Leena takes the form of a female great tit (Parus major), almost indistinguishable from a mundane member of the species, though a sapient intelligence shines in her eyes, and her vocal cords produce a very human-like voice.

Race: Sielulintu ("soul-bird").

Personality: Humble and kind, but with a bite. Leena tries to treat everyone with respect regardless of who they are or what they believe in, but hates it when people refuse to accept the possibility of being wrong. She understands that nobody, not even her, has a perfect answer to every problem, but wishes for every word to be heard and considered instead of being blindly dismissed. She would never resort to physical violence (not that her tiny stature would lend itself to it), but she isn't afraid to speak up and use "the system" against others when it is truly necessary. She never seems to be truly angry at anyone, merely disappointed.

Backstory: Before the Divine War, one of a human's souls would be brought to them by bird fairies at birth. This soul would protect the human in their dreams and expand their lung capacity, but not without side effects: they would sometimes cause small twitches in the body and at the moment of death leave through the human's mouth with their last breath in the physical form of a small animal, usually a bird but sometimes a flying insect or a bat. They would then later be moved to another newborn. Though benevolent, the sight of animals crawling out of corpses was understandably deemed horrific. After the Winchester Affair, the matter slowly returned to practice, but very rarely and only with the signed consent of both parents.

Leena is one of this new generation of sielulintuja, though it started with a tragedy. Her charge died at two months due to a birth defect which she was naturally blamed for, and she had to flee for the only safe place she knew: the Styx Bar & Grill. Though not an official diplomat, she worked the humble jobs of waiting and cleaning, letting her listen in on conversations and even occasionally be asked for an outsider perspective on one thing or another.

Leena was there to see the Disharmony Bombings. She wasn't physically hurt, but the senseless violence struck her deeply, especially when it was on the people who were there to address the issues the bombers were complaining about in the first place. She turned politically active and was indeed among the first to condemn the attack. Though the tiny bird was initially laughed at, over time her arguments gained weight. Now, 20 years, one book and several media appearances later, she has risen to represent her race in the newly built Bifröst Café.

Ancestral Spirit: The Swan of Tuonela, whose name has been lost to time. A symbol of purity in the darkest of places, the Swan was uninterested in the War and unyielding in his pacifism. Subsequently, he didn't resist when in the aftermath a Uriah hunter came to shoot him to death with a magical arrow. The Swan is still known as a martyr figure, and the hunter as a legend but also a fool.
