THE TOURNAMENT ARC: A Tournament Arc RTD(Where You Fight in a Tournament Arc)
“Greetings, ladies and gentlemen!”, a conventionally attractive 20-something old man shouts out, microphone in hand as his blonde hair waves in the wind, probably because of the height he’s at, “My name is Hans Silverback, reporter for GA News!”
The camera moves from him to the area below, a wild place full of forests and mountains.
“As you can see, we’re reporting live on the preliminary round of the Grand Arc Tournament, named after the company which sponsors it! For newer viewers, we’ll give you a quick rundown of the tournament and how it works while we wait for this round to start.”
“The Grand Arc Tournament, named after Grand Arc Industries, one of the premier tech distributors in the world, is a tournament to which fighters of all kinds, with both mundane and mystical abilities, flock to from across the world, be they just a student or a 70-year old man who has spent his entire life honing his skills! It’s a contest of power, wits and skill to reach the top for the chance to have one wish granted by Grand Arc Industries, so long as it’s within their power!”
“Now, ladies and gentlemen, we are required to inform you that while Grand Arc Industries does have a crack team of medical professionals on standby to minimise injuries and casualties, anything that occurs during the tournament is not the company’s fault and they can’t be held liable for permanent injuries or fatalities!”
“And on that extremely morbid note, I give you the weather. Feel free to check out the interviews we conducted with various fighters at
www.grandarcnews.com.”
So, what do you call yourself? (Self-explanatory. Name goes here.)
Yes, fascinating. What, in your opinion, makes you stand out from the other competitors? (What is your special power?)
What’s your reason for participating in this tournament? Do you think Grand Arc Industries will be able to give you whatever it is you want? (Why is your character even risking injury and possibly their life in this?)
Tell the public a little more about yourself. (Describe stuff like personality, some background etc(or at least what you want other people to think(please message me the actual details if that’s the case(do you think this has enough parentheses yet))))
Included: a picture of [Yourname]
(Describe your actual apperance)
Basic RTD rules apply. Every time you take an action, roll a d6.
1. Critical Fail. You fail so hard the universe personally shits on you from on high.
2. Fail. You simply fail at what you were doing, with all the consequences that entails.
3. Partial Success. You don’t quite fail, but you don’t entirely succeed either. You just kinda get a little done, you mediocre underachiever.
4. Success. You do the thing. Go you!
5. Epic Success. You succeed so hard the president himself comes down to shake your hand for your wonderful display of eating toast or whatever.
6. Overshoot. You succeed SO HARD it loops right back around to fucking you over anyway.
Damage
This game uses the time-honored system of chunky salsa to represent damage. For those unfamiliar, that means there’s no health bar. If someone applies sword to arm, you lose an arm, and start bleeding until you run out of blood and die, if someone throws a fireball in your face, your face gets burnt, etc.
What Makes You Stand Out?
This can be a lot of things. It could be your wide array of Bat Anti-gadgets, your mysterious ability to set things on fire with your mind or just the fact that you punch good. Be creative.
Turnabouts
Whenever you either roll a Crit Fail or an Overshoot, you get a single Turnabout, since the universe is a big believer in pity. You can spend as many Turnabouts as you want each turn. Each Turnabout spent lets you commit one more action that turn. You also start with a single Turnabout. Actions performed due to a Turnabout can't give you more Turnabouts, because exponential Turnabouts aren't something I want to deal with.
Without a Turnabout, you can only do one combat action per turn.
Advantages
Advantages are separated into two types, Neutral and Personal. Neutral Advantages are environmental hazards and the like that you can use to your advantage, either to get a bonus(eg. Blinding someone via sudden light will give them a debuff and make them call you an asshole), damaging someone(eg. Throwing them into a flaming pit and listening to their screams) or otherwise benefiting you/harming your opponent in some way.
Personal Advantages are advantages only one person can make use of, be they weakpoints in an opponent’s armor they created, setting traps that you are immune to in some manner etc. and, again, can provide either a numerical bonus or a chance of additional things happening to your opponent.
Most Advantages, with a few exceptions, are one-use only.
Player cap might be raised, depending on interest.
