Ricardo steps in front of Danh. "Danh. Look around you. Everyone is putting their lives on the line here. You're alienating the thing that is most likely to keep you alive. I dont think that's a smart move. If you insist on continuing this childish behaviour, Everyone will start treating you like a child. And children aren't allowed alcohol and have strict enforced bedtimes. Is that what you want? Danh, i'm willing to risk life and limb to save your ass out there, regardless of whether you'd return the facor. You could be a good soldier Danh. If being treated like a child doesnt work, we could stick you in a cage in shiela's pen for a few hours, livestreamed. Fanfic authors would go crazy." Ricardo is looking danh square in the eyes, he offers the fistbump again. "Do we understand each other?"

Glaring down at Ricardo, he says,"I understand that you're threatening me with stuff you can't back up. I already said I'd do my job."

Ignoring Ricardo, Danh turns to the other Akras emoyees running the show, and operating the gate.
"When are we gonna get this started, huh?"

"No need to pressure him, Mr. de Castillo, this mission does not require sample-taking. I'm certain we'll find other hives in less inconvenient locations as we explore New Australia. Dr. Carmine?"

The gate operator took his usual position on the raised dais, and began to pose and chant, activating the gate, Lights seemed to move behind sigils on the wall, taking a resting position between each syllable. And then the gate was open, three spheres once more pulled into a funnel in space.

Resisting the urge to give Ricardo the finger, Danh hurries through the gate.
