"Sure thing. Every bit I can stuff in this pack. Damn, I'm gonna need a new pack after this."

"Heh, I'm sure it all gets clean easily enough." Kaito said simply, stepping out to go gather a few of the less mangled bugs.

Most of the bugs are crisp, mutilated or shredded. Some of the legs reminds you of a giant version of delicious crab legs, man.. all those fighting sure works up an appetite. Maybe except for Danh who seems to disagree with bugs and insects in general.

Vigil's helmet pulled up the sequence to activate the gateway here. He began to read it off, working slowly, taking the unfamiliar postures. He looked himself up and down after each stance, making sure he had it right before speaking. [Linguistics 45]

As he uttered the final words the gate sequence began, three rings rising from the floor and spinning fast, leaving nested spheroid blurs that slowly gave way to the opening distortion.

Gunfire continued to erupt behind him as his comrades chased off the local wildlife. Within long seconds, the three rings stopped, locked together like an arch over the wormhole, the smallest shifting away from you and the largest towards you to create a swirling vortex of energy.

It wasn't the wormhole itself they were seeing, of course. Wormholes were no more visible than the curvature of space itself. It was the energy of the projectors flowing along the contours in reality that the gateways forged. If it ever was, it's safe now to enter, and return home.

Pack the laser and run for the exit with as much dead stuff as I can fit in my pack. Grab any chunks of loose rock I can see as well.

You arrive back through the gate. "What containment facility?" Dr. Langdon said. "We haven't got a containment facility, and you weren't instructed to take samples."

Someone can rush to the 3d printers. Is there an Engineer on the team?

"I know we didn't have to, but we are scouts. Making it so you know and con prepare in advanced for what needs to be done is our job. Though, if you don't want the plant, can I get. . . . A large pot to keep this in? And a lot of soil. I think I have. . . . Some funds to spare to try and maintain this things health."

Vigil hurried off to pot the plant, and try to water it. He was still in his suit, sans helmet, as samples were taken and it's condition was monitored. Over the course of a day, it wilted and died. But much valuable data was collected. [Biology 38]
