The escorting party opened up on all sides, Christian and Kaito sweeping their PDW low to the floor, bullets piercing and shredding through the beetles like hot bullet through butter, clearing the advancing path towards the gate room while Ricardo snatch up a particularly large-headed beetle with his hand, the creature flails uselessly in the air as he got it in a perfect lock that secures it using just one hand, the creature now unable to escape.

The party could see the L-shaped tunnel leading towards the gate room now! though the bugs have reformed there and starting to pack it once again.

Meanwhile, Danh could hear the avalanche of skittering legs after his short burst splatters bug gore all over the laser turret, a quick check confirms that it didn't get to anywhere sensitive and the gun is hot and primed to go.

During the scuffle, with Vigil swinging his blade around to shoo away bug, a bug managed to launch itself from the ceiling and onto the sapling, snatching it right out of his hand and tries to burrow back into the ground with the plant!

"Ricardo!" Vigil is running after it with his sword out. He is going to bring that flower back covered in blood if he must.

Ricardo drops the bowie with his free hand and draws his spare Glock. "Vigil, I'm gonna shoot the bug, stop." He shoots at the bug making off with the plant.

Vigil will roll forward and to the side, he isn't going to quite stop, but he will give a bit more of a berth.

Light up the bugs between us and the gate. Try not to get into the laser's line of fire, Danh is going to fire that thing up any second now.

"Danh, we are getting close! Wipe'em out but check your targets please, I don't want to be a friendly fire statistic! That goes for everyone else too, don't shoot our laser gunner!"

Manning the turret, Danh says over radio, "Alright, but don't be a bunch of fuckasses and run into my line of fire until I finish!"
With that, he begins trying to blast the bugs with the laser.

"I make it a policy never to argue with the guy who has the heavy weapon. Christian, team. We should hold at the entry to the tunnel leading to the gate room until Danh has a good opportunity to let us through. No need to get in each other's way."

"Yeah, sounds better than trying to wade through bugs to get there at least." Kaito spoke strangely calmly, stepping back and bringing his PDW down to blast away any bugs heading for the plant. Eh, it'd keep vigil happy, and thin numbers at the same time.

Vigil dashed forward and managed to get to the plant before the bug could pull it underground, with a firm grip on it and a mighty punt, he kicks the creature with power-assisted boot, sending it flying clear across the cavern and splatting it against the wall on the far side. The sapling now safe and sound in his arms again as he also dodge out of the way for Ricardo who opened up with his antique 3D printed Glock on fully automatic.

As it turns out, even neolithic 9MM chemical-based copper-coated projectiles were still able to pierce the bugs and do great damage to them, Ricardo went ahead and emptied his 30 rounds magazine into the general direction of Vigil, clearing the area around him as well as reloading a fresh mag all with just one hand to lay clearing fire towards the Gate room. Hot bullet casing going all over the damn place.

Meanwhile, Christian scored a good deal of the bugs following the plans, careful tap tap tap tap clearing a straight path in the swarm to the entrance. Kaito helped too, though it seemed like the bugs kept running into his gunfire rather than he actually needing to aim. Oh well!


Once the party round the L-corner, everyone presumably either duck or jump the hell away from the center where Danh flips the safety switch off and flip aside the plastic cover on his red button surrounded by the yellow and black danger pattern.

With a press of the button, the turret hums for but a second before it unleash pure !!SCIENCE!! at the chasing swarm, superheated laser microwaving bugs from inside out, making disgusting explosions and nasty burns that makes you really, really glad that you couldn't smell any of that.

The path is clear, and Danh will be able to hold the bugs back for up to a week of continuous suppressive fire.

Perhaps it's time to get out of here.

Peering over the turret at the scorched carcasses and splattered juices, Danh cautiously says over radio, "...I think it's clear, guys."

"Go ahead and get the plant to the gate, I think I'll stay here and swat bugs for a bit. Every one we kill now is one less to deal with later."

((Am I correct in assuming there are still some bugs, just not as immediate threats?))

Christian continues firing into the greatly reduced swarm. If Danh wants to leave the laser he will use that, but hopefully he can just keep on trucking with his PDW.

Vigil will hold his plant in one hand, letting the machinery hold most of the weight as he flexes his chest in an aggressive threat.

"Yah Basic!"
And then, he hurried himself off, to get to the gate. He didn't want to see if they were able to regroup.

Even with Dahn able to hold back the bugs by himself, having someone else to watch his back would be a good idea. Kaito took a knee behind and to the side of the turret, taking careful bursts into any of the horde the laser missed on the first shot. "Yeah, Christian Dahn and I can hold this, especially with the laser firing. The rest of you should head back through. I know our job was more to scout than to secure, but if we don't want to come back to a gate room swarming with bugs, might be good to bring back something that can guard the place while we're away."

"No drones! I don't want to have to shoot even more stuff when we come back. Let's just get as many as we can now. Well, maybe if you break its legs off or something."

Hopping off the turret, Danh nods, and hurries over to the gate, ready to finally go the hell home.
