You are not but a worm, the larval stage of a demon. You had been such for near 2000 years. Not so long by the standards of hell.

Hell was not what the humans thought it was. Humans are always so self centered. They thought that hell was for them. No. No, hell was the sanctuary of your kind. Demons have a tendency to make enemies of near everyone they meet, so long ago, in the face of dubious odds and many wars, the elders of your kind created this place. Hell was one step back from reality. It was physical, real, but only unto itself. Here, your kind had retreated from the many threats. Here, they grew they larva by the millions in great fields. They burnt the air itself, and the rivers flowed with sustenance. (blood, that is)

But hell was a trap of our own making. What is a demon without a victim? Hell was solitary confinement. Stagnation. Insanity. Death.

Without outside stimulus, the great larval fields never hatched. The imps never grew, and slowly the oldest and strongest started to wane. Hell was making us weaker. The dreams of marching back out with new demonic armies began to fade. In time, even the grown demons began to die off. Hell was nearly empty now days. It was our own corner to die in.

As a worm, you had watched this. You had seen the failures as great demons tried to push thier influence back out. Humans had developed a new weapon, to keep us locked in our box. A way to starve us out. Religion. No one pushed out anymore, for fear of exorcism or death. The tendrils connecting hell to reality had shriveled and cracked. Most just wait to die.
It is the late 21st century. The influence of hell on earth has been absent for so long that humans have begun to forget. You have spent centuries mapping the mind ways and fighting to manifest.  At last, you think you have made a breakthrough. A decrepit old mindway has lead you to the true world. At last you can make yourself know.

Whose mind have you found yourself in? Where will you start?

A) A mental patient. He always had a tenuous grasp on reality, and you can mold his thoughts with ease. High Devotion/Low Influence.
B) A secretary. She works for Johnson & Talk. A bit dissatisfied with the monotony of her life, but not easily give to superstition. Med Devotion/Med Influence
C) A professor. He specializes in Archeology. His name is well known, but his mind is well ordered. Low Devotion/High Influence

A Start small.

The human mind you find yourself in is just as weak and chaotic as the legends described them. The world you see through his eyes is strange indeed. It is filled with contraptions and devices with complexity beyond your ability to understand. Many overlapping empires and powerful entities rule the world. Humans, it would seem, have changed much in the years.

For the first few weeks you simply observe, learning about the world you will one day conquer. Soon, you begin to impress yourself into the man's dreams, filling his subconscious with a quite dread. When at last you push your image into his waking mind, he begins to break almost immediately. He spends the next few nights in silent agony, begging you through tears of fear to leave him be. He spends his hours clawing at his head, at the image and feeling of a pale worm eating into his soul. He is absolutely convinced our your reality and power. +3 devotion. +2 suffering.

At last, you decide you will make a move. You will offer this miserable creature a deal. Peace, for worship and service. His must intone your name. To do so however, he must have a name to intone.

What is your name?
You must now choose your first name. The names you bear (especially the first one) will have an impact on how you develop and what skills you can acquire. Your first name is the only one that you will be able to choose yourself. This is an important decision. You have three syllables to work with

A) Mind (intelligence) Your mind is of equal with the smartest humans. This will help you manipulate people and networks, and allow for more complex (or secure) plots.
B) Mind (strength) You have a rare mental fortitude and strong resolve. This will help you navigate the mind ways, and maintain a connection for longer. This also lets you alter the perception of a host to a greater degree.
C) Body (form) While not immediately useful as you can not yet manifest any physicality in the human world, there are many rare features that can only be developed at an early stage. The energy needed to form these features means that you will not be able to progress other more useful attributes. This is a choice for either very risky demons, or those very confident in their future success. This choice will emphasise features that provide specific physical skills.
D) Body (Presence) While not immediately useful as you can not yet manifest any physicality in the human world, there are many rare features that can only be developed at an early stage. The energy needed to form these features means that you will not be able to progress other more useful attributes. This is a choice for either very risky demons, or those very confident in their future success. This choice will emphasise features that affect others and the environment around you.

You came into existence as a Demon seeking to grant terrible Logic to man, but now in this chaotic mind you just want to have !!FUN!!. For this you need to influence your host.

((looks like B takes it. As for the name... I was kinda assuming you guys would go with english since it would give you (and me) a clearer idea of the effects on you development. Nonetheless, Fzxbr it is! Ill have to get creative here, let's see... it's an anagram for exactly... 0 words.  I'll figure something out.))

UPDATE

You declare to the lowly human that you name is Fzxbr, noble demon of hell. For peace, you inform him, you will have only one thing. Unwavering commitment and worship from him for the rest of his life.

He concedes immediately, crying tears of relief and horror. You had intended for him to merely set up a shrine to you, maybe say a prayer or two, but he seems far more affected by your presence than you had realized. He scrawls your name over and over on the walls, he pricks his hand and draws blood in your name nightly before he sleeps. He quits his job and spends all his time drawing sketches of your form on anything he can manage. You do your part, and stop actively torturing him. The depths of his devotion are a bit more than you anticipated here, and you even feel a little bad. He seems to have a lot of preconceived notions that demons are some incarnation of evil or some such, so in the name of fighting stereotypes you do him a few good turns. You tidy up his mind a bit. Nothing that would affect his devotion to you of course, but you quite out some of the more harmful tendencies, and generally improve his mental state. His hygiene improves noticeably. (That will teach him to assume semi insectoid mental parasites are inherently bad!) +3 devotion

With such recognition, you finally begin to grow. Your soft, grub like exterior hardens and cracks, and soon you emerge from within. As a trivial imp you stand at a solid 5 inches. Like most demons, you are built in a traditional bipedal form. Having focused on your mental development, you have a slightly larger than average head. Most of the front of this head is taken up by a single large eye, with thick pulsing veins radiating away from it. The eye contains two irises, meaning you still have depth perception. The upper iris is green, while the lower iris is blue. Just beneath it you have a small, misshapen mouth, filled with needle like teeth. The top of your head has two broad, flat horns. They are grown back perfectly along the curve of your skull, the bottoms being fused into your scalp. You have two sets of ridges starting underneath your shoulder blades and extending down your back.Your upper half is covered in cracked chitin, and your legs and feet are surprisingly human.

In growing, your mental powers have increased noticeably. You have much stronger ability to alter your hosts perception, and you practice this each morning as the man (whose name you learn is jeremy) wakes up. Every morning you project the most vivid and realistic image of an expansive hellscape in his mind. You have him fully convinced that he is physically in hell each morning before returning to the world. It no longer strains you to connect down the mind ways either, and you feel you could stay connected and maintain this illusion for as long as you wanted to, though you don't because of the terms of your bargain. The mind ways, it appears, have been slowly restoring themselves with you repeated use as well. The shriveled threads are re opening, and hell is one tiny step closer to reality.

With Jeremy's expectedly intense devotion, you feel as though you are already ready to grow again.

You are currently a Trivial Imp. You will become a Minor Imp. Please choose a development to accompany this growth.

A) Mind (intelligence) Your mind is of equal with the smartest humans. This will help you manipulate people and networks, and allow for more complex (or secure) plots.
B) Mind (strength) You have an indomitable will. Not only can you completely alter the perception of you hosts for an indefinite amount of time, but you can also seize direct control for a short period of time if the host has already submitted to you. 
C) Body (rare) After this stage you will not be able to develop rare traits. You are no longer malleable enough that you can from these from scratch, but you are sure that you could find some latent ability to manifest from you features.
D) Body (general) You can focus your development into becoming a prime specimen of demon kind. You will physically be much more fit and capable than another demon of an equivalent stage. (Note: You still can't manifest yourself in the real world.)

You also need to decide what to do about Jeremy. What action will you demand of him? Will you demand no action at all?

As for Jeremy... let's clean up his head a bit more. Maybe clean out a small corner from which we can more directly control him. Maybe brand his mind with something that marks him as ours and ours alone. It doesn't really matter a whole lot. We don't need him to do anything right now, really; at least, I can't think of anything.
