indeed. time will tell, they have just been greenlighted so there's a lot to see while they prepare the early access or whatever.

Ya. I think they're going to start a kickstarter too maybe?

i wonder if there will be actual survival elements.

when i played minecraft the only worries were hunger and monsters coming out at night. most of what i've seen on these games are just mobs that come around but your character doesnt need any sustain actually.

well, i think Subnautica does it fine but its because of the setting.

now, if there will be space survival at least there should be a focus on supplies management, temperature and fuel.

i mean, in all these games it seems ships dont need any fuel and the player can just go on and on and on because aparently, they dont have to eat or protect from the elements even when stranded on a planet.

also. i hope these guys can put a foot on the Gas giant gameplay.

I thought they got rid of greenlight?

Either way, neat.

They did. This week. BUT, it's being replaced with a similar service.

Hopefully this game will go somewhere. StarMade hasn't stalled yet, and I don't know why people complained about it. SM is in an alpha state right now. They're still *very actively* adding content.

This looks really great. I'm going to be watching it, but after funding both Blockade Runner and Scrumbleship, I'm a little hesitant to go for yet another voxel builder in space with big dreams.

I have never kickstarted, backed, or crowdfunded anything in my life, but I certainly plan to support this game as much as I can. I mean, it's literally my dream game, so I can't help but get a little invested in it emotionally.

From what I've seen, it's basically better than Starmade in every respect. Equally ambitious with a dev who seems to have level head on his shoulders. I recommend you check out some of the youtube videos to see the differences. Skywanderers may be even less complete, but you can tell right off the bat that it's wildly more intuitive with a more detailed building system and more stylized (if similar) graphics. Also the logic systems look much better and more space-efficient. Again... it's basically does everything Starmade does but better and more.

I think my issue is that these games put together a great engine, and then stop before actually developing a fun game out of it. It's fun building a ship a few times and flying it round, but I want to have A REASON to do so.

It's why subnautica works so well, all the crafting is embedded in the gaming system, rather than just being random stuff you can create, but you'd be fine just having a 4 block room to put a fire and bed in.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

yeah.

in Minecraft there's actually a reason to build stuff most of the time, your base specially since there's the problem of Creepers and monsters invading.

in Terraria there's a lot of collectibles and themed sets for decoration but its just icing in the cake because crafting is required to advance throught the game world, you can practically live in a box for that matter. in blood moons and other events like that you even have to modify the base to survive.

Starbound gives you a ship but you dont really need it for anything if you have flags or teleporters anyways. but the crafting is still there. i wish there was an actual point on upgrading the ship but oh well.

Avorion, well, you need to have a ship to advance on the game basically, and you cannot do small stuff because aparently, there's a minimal functional size. so instead of being able to build a fighter and go light you have to build heavy plated stuff in order to survive even at Iron in the galactic edges.

i hope this game implements stuff similar to the first 2 games i mentioned. the collectible part isnt really needed (allthought i liked to hoard things in Terraria) but building a base and actually have a use for it apart of storage/crafting would be nice.

same for ships. i see that the game allows to make compact and small ships so i hope this means i can build a civilian sized vessel for transport or trading or even small bounty hunting jobs. maybe have a system similar to the X series. that would be ideal.

points if there's a mission system that makes players explore space for key materials or intel or something like that.

the game isnt even in early access so we can only hope.

i wonder how will the dungeons be.....

Okie dokes.

From what I can gather, the game has been greenlit and there is a kickstarter on the way. So that's good.

As far as purpose goes... well, thats my major concern too. As I understand it, the plan is to add factions/npcs with both missions and jobs. Of course, most games say that, so yes, we can only hope.

If anyone here has written AI here before, then it's well-understood that they're basically talking about writing a baby mind into existence, with all of the difficulties that entails. Doable but adaptability is fucking difficult, as I'm sure you're all aware of from personal experience.
