Gonna go with Nomad ranger and have my weapon categories be Slashing Swords and Recurve bows, add 5% to my STR growth and I have a few ideas for personal skills, in order of one from the book to pretty crazy: 
If under half health then +2 to damage
If unit is fighting character who had part in murdering family then +15 hit.
If under half health then activate gamble when retaliating
