To be fair, a barrel extension could help out, to give the blast of superheated air more space to spread out into before slamming into our operators, but that might just increase ore costs...

Still wouldn't hurt to cool the barrel and shoot awesome steam.
But that's one adrenaline junkie's opinion.

Here's the thing:
The CASE specifically directs the air past the COOLING SYSTEM (The fancy radiator we revised) and down the barrel, where it will help direct the blast of superheated air, even if it doesn't prevent it from being formed. It will increase our rate of fire (If it gets the air moving, which is the ONLY possible fault I can see [barring a 1 and a lot of shoddy engineering, of course] while also giving us an added edge of protection. Also, it's a great deterrent against suicide-charges and masses of small bugs)
No longer relevant, design adapted. Now with 100% more muzzle brake!

Alright, I changed the votebox. It is now more consistent. Please keep track of the number of things you vote for.

I encourage people to vote for basically any cannon revision that includes a wooden blast shield. It's practically free (What's 1 wood anyway?) and effective (Word of GM).

I would FURTHER encourage those who posted smaller version to go add a blast shield to the smaller version if it's not been done already, because it's so simple that it's not worth it's own revision (Hence the revised PLACE CASE, which now uses 100% more !!SCIENCE!!)

NO to the new vote box. It is terribly confusing.

I believe madman wishes to consolidate the cannon votes, however in this case Itshana improvements would not be fielded under gauntlets, see?

Also re: consolidating size and shield feels like two disparate things.

Yay!

The old one is easier to read, and isn't pushing an agenda.

As of right now: We're making a 2/3 size cannon (What does this entail? Is it a revision?) with a blast shield (This strikes me as 1 revision, not 2, yet we're spending an entire revision just to stick a blast shield on the thing). This is possibly going to help, however, without redirecting superheated air downrange (Even a little bit) it's still going to turn the hallway into an inferno--- Wait, this might be an advantage.

Self-firing cannons for the express purpose of burning everything?

Got buried in Discord so
Are using ishtanas in skiffs going to give us better-than-standard returns because of the bugfix?
How much effect is lost between a first and second revision?

1. I have no idea what bugfix you're talking about.
2. That depends entirely on the revisions.

PLACE 2B
Efficacy: 6
The 2B variant of the P.L.A.C.E cannon is a massive step up in terms of usability for the marines. The reduced power is still capable of leveling anything Wreth infantry have encountered so far, and the initial heat wave no longer burns the gunner's exposed skin instantly! The cannon itself is safely made a great deal lighter, which in turn reduces the need for secondary components (trim crystal/webbing/tripod) of as high a grade.

Projected Cost: 3 Ore, 2 Crystal, 1 Silk

Gauntlet Efficiency
Efficacy: 1
It turns out that telling a bunch of engineers to increase weapon efficiency can be a very... dangerous request. The modified gauntlets that they design are indeed sometimes more power-efficient than a conventional gauntlet, but at the cost of being massively inefficient to produce. The variants they produce attempt to implement a half-dozen theoretical optimization options postulated by aetheric scientist, and incorporate various complex mechanical components and precious metals. While engineers gain a little experience working with more exotic techniques that might prove fruitful at a later date, their attempt to generate consistent and reasonably implementable improvements to the basic gauntlet design fail.

Blast Shield
Efficacy: 3+1
Designing a simple wooden blast shield for the fledgling P.L.A.C.E weapon series is a simple matter, though finding the best geometry to effectively disrupt the burning air emitted by the weapon requires some experimentation. The final variant is constructed of good hardwood, shaped to prevent the backwash from immediately burning the gunner, and thick enough to absorb fairly liberal fire from a Suppressor- though gauntlets still tear it to shreds and rifles will punch right through it.

It is now the Production, Deployment, and Tactics Phase
When deploying ships and marines, please specify their active tactic. If you do not, I will continue using their tactic from the previous round.

You will automatically produce 2 skiffs this turn.
You will automatically produce 2 marines this turn.

Furk.
