Dragun Sapshot
Efficacy: 6
On the surface one might think that filling the inside of a cannon with sticky material that would only serve to leave a nigh-impossible to clean flaming residue after each shot would be a bad idea- but then one doesn't fully understand the dedication of Wrethan weapon engineers. Sapshot is (eventually) realized as a bagged projectile, fired with a great deal of wadding. In essence, instead of firing a spray of chaotic sulfur in a torrent of brilliant flame, the Sapshot hawks a single flaming spitball at the enemy. This doubles the range at which flaming shot can be fired with some expectation of effective impact, and (as the lead balls now travel at the same rate as the flaming component) greatly increases the piercing capability of the flaming projectile. The drawback is that it decreases spread, and thus doesn't quite have the same lance-of-flame effect that the loose sulfur shot does at knife-fighting range.

There is no increase in cost for this ammunition type.

Dragun Mountings
Efficacy: 6
The new mounting for the Dragun is a thing of beauty. Standard thinking envisioned conventional cannons needing carriage and rope systems to constrain their recoil, with turning them being an arduous or impossible process. The Engineers defy those expectations with their turntable design. Basically, the one ton cannon sits on a turntable of metal-reinforced wood, itself riding on top of a circular geared track. One of the gunners, by rapidly turning a large crank, can engage the gearing and rotate the entire platform. This process is still slow, but the fact that it isn't really effected by the inertia of the ship means that the guns can be turned against the direction of the ship's turn, and can be rotated without fear of losing control during evasive maneuvers.

However, the assembly is unavoidably large and immensely heavy- being able to rotate while still capable of absorbing the cannon's recoil via a friction rail system. It's ability to be mounted into aetheric small slots will have to be evaluated on a case by case basis, but, in general, a ship can give up a bank of 3 aether cannon mounts to field 2 of these mounts.  The brass is rather impressed with the design, and engineers think it could be upscaled with relative ease in order to mount much heaver cannons, aetheric or conventional.

Dragun Mounting: 4 Wood, 2 Ore per mount when refit from Aetheric light slots. Currently heavily optimized for the Dragun cannon.

It is now the production, deployment, and tactics phase.

Spire Wreth's production stands at
13/y Crystal, 63/65 Banked
17/y Ore, 46/85 banked
19/y Wood, 94/95 banked
10/y Silk, 50/50 banked

Hey, alright! With just one set of revisions, we've raised our average to horrible, up from eldritch abomination! (I have not actually recalculated our average)

Anyway, the new Sapshot lets us fire the Dragun forwards safely:

Hey, does the fact that we are no longer firing a spray of sulfur mean we can safely fire the Dragun forwards now?
[...]
Draignean - Today at 4:22 PM
Yes, since the spitball will decelerate  at a mostly even rate.
So there's no reason not to mount it on the front of our new Windrider. We'll be sacrificing two LACs for one Dragun, but those are acceptable losses, I think.

So, what's the bill for a new Windrider.
Quote
ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY:
1 Windrider Hull                    (9w, 5o)
2 Itshana Select Small Cores (12c, 12o)
2 Small Lifts                         (6c, 4o)
8 SUCKERPUNCH LACs          (8c, 16o)
2 Normal LACs                      (2c, 2o)
  1 Prototype Dragun (Free)
  Dragun Mounting                 (4w, 2o)
16 Trims                               (8c)
8 reams of Webbing               (16s)
Total:                                   (13w, 34c, 39o, 16s) of which 20o=Select costs, 20% discount = -4 ore.
We also have 5 reams of webbing already, lowering costs by 10s.
  Total after discounts: (13w, 34c, 35o, 6s)
We have 46 ore. Let's add some armour on- we saw how useful that was. So that's 3 more ore. 8 ore left. What do we want to spend it on, if anything?
We could send some more marines to TC. Three units with swords, envenomed pincushions, and (two with) gauntlet fireteams, perhaps? Maybe another BLOCK for good measure? And officer shirts since we're overflowing on silk anyway. Total cost 8o, 2c, 46w, 6s.

With two Windriders and a bunch of Skiffs guarding it, Herbie should be able to safely deploy troops at the spire despite Kasgyr's blockade. And with the extra marines, we could make the final push- before they get their acts together and figure out a way around our fortifications.
I need not remind anyone how valuable capturing TC would be, of course.

Even if they have a third kunai, 2 plus Skiffs vs 3 plus wimpy Skiffs would be a much fairer fight than 2v1.

if we have spare ore, we may want to use it on some itshana equipment, to exploit the discount on the bulk order.

By the way, did we ever replace the broken armor section on the first windrider?

I forgot that ships take a turn to build. So, yeah, we shouldn't spend the ore on marine equipment.
