Upon review, the 5 rolled to establish the pattern for the Natalie line should have been sufficient to control the production of topaz at the Princess' rate. The cap for the Natalie Skiff has been moved from 8 to 10.

EDIT:

Does "make a difference" mean "they fail to gain ground" or "a few more die gaining the ground"?

A few more die gaining ground.

I got bored, and decided to compile a list of every design and revision proposal that never made it to production. Most of them are a bit crap (hence why they didn't make it) but maybe we'll find a diamond in the rough?

Quote from: Designs
Titan Warship
Jump Pack
Military-Industry Moderate Docks
Focus Crystal Cutting
Spire Top Vats
Deep Spire Forges
Corvette Hull
Aether Rifle
Aether Mine
Stealth Suit
Sniper Tactics
Adaptive Shroud Management
Aetheric Sensor
Cycle Shields
Lumin Grenade
Dart Class fighter
Dedicated Core Crystals
Naval Boot Camp
Personal Shrouds
Advanced Marine School
Life Vests
Lifeboat Dhingies
Quote from: Revisions
Stealthy Insertion
Streamlined Pipe Patterns
User-Friendly Vanguard Mount
Trim Crystal Turrets

There were more, but some were rendered obsolete since.

I also discovered this post by Draig saying that our PL will not improve it's production based on increased resource output unless we poke it. We haven't touched it since the beginning of the game, so that could be worthwhile.

I actually talked a little about that on Discord with NAV a moment ago. It applied to the patterns that were made, not the PL itself. Basically, because of the way resources are calculated, crystal now only contributes 56% of what it once did to PL costs. For instance, the pattern A skiff costs about ~100 converted COWS units at the start of the game. Now, because you've increased your crystal production, it costs 84 units. Thus, if were to redo that pattern, it would gain an extra point of cap.

Another design, because we can never have enough:

Public-Private Ore Production
New firms interested in mining and refining the various ore veins present in Kasgyre territory can apply for royal subsidy to help kickstart their business. In exchange for an infusion of start-up capital (in the form of materials and/or equipment) the government (and by extension the military) will own shares in the company that will produce dividends of ore.

Basically, an attempt to produce an Ore version of our Hanging Crystal Gardens, because we seriously need more and we are not going to secure any of the belt spires any time soon.

Also Draig: If we successfully developed a tactic to seize enemy shipping instead of just destroy it, would we need to use a vessel with transport capacity, or would any work?

Grenade Sling
Efficacy: 4+1
The grenade sling is the project of generations of engineers looking at the problem of how to get grenades to farther places faster, carefully considering the available options, tentatively experimenting (and non-tentatively failing) with solutions, and eventually looking upon their collective body of work and saying: "Fuck it, let's go stone age."

It works. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it does work. Every marine is given a small sling with a hook and catch line. For grenades, you loop the trigger, whirl the sling, release the line, and the sling pulls the pin as the grenade flies. It's a simple machine to increase throwing range.

It can also be used with rocks. New marines are somewhat less than enthused when they're given a crash course in how to bung small rocks at an enemy they know has a portable aetheric cannon.

Bronzewood Tower Shield
Efficacy: 6
The towershields of bronzewood are sturdy, effective, and cheap. Granted, they're still wooden shields, but they can stop a Witch-Hunter shot (though it still tends to penetrate a couple inches) and they'll definitely serve to keep bolts off the men behind them. They're still heavy to move with, being tower shields, and the man holding one will still definitely be killed if he's hit directly by the enemy cannon. The secondary shrapnel, however, will be much less of a problem. Men equipped with them will be able to shield at least one comrade behind themselves, but the heavy shield makes them only able to use one-handed weapons.

Bronzewood Tower Shields: 4 Wood Per fireteam | A tall shield, manufactured of strong and fire-resistant bronzewood. Good protection against bolts and arrows, less so against higher velocity munitions. Individuals equipped with these shields can fight with one handed weapons, and can cover their teammates without shields at a 1:1 rate.

Spire Kasgyre's Production stands at
13(+10)/y Crystal, 24/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 13/85 banked
19/y Wood, 70/95 banked
10/y Silk, 37/50 banked

It is now the production, deployment, and project maintenance phase.

To seize the ship- no, but then you have to haul around the civilian transport, and the crew to threaten/replace the crew of the transport. To seize the cargo you need a ship with capacity.

So, Tower shields, grenade slings, witch hunters and mobile cover?

Do all grenadiers now have grenade slings?

Either way, that's a good set of rolls.

Regarding our Tower Shields, if we develop Personal Shrouds (even if they're just enough to save you from a single cannon shot before collapsing) and then stick them in bronze armour for good measure, we'll have a practically unkillable squad. Especially if we have some sort of testudo tactic for them to use. We've already got aether pistols after all, so we're not that far off.

Anyway, plans for this turn:
Quote from: Three Captains Buildup
Purchase:
Small Topaz Core (6c)
Small Lift Crystal (3c, 2o)
6x Trim Crystal Pairs (6c)
5x Reams of Webbing (10s)
4x Light Aether Cannon (4c, 4o)
Hanging Crystal Garden (2c, 2o, 2w, 2s)
4x Bronzewood Tower Shields (16w)
2x Aetheric Pistol (2c, 2o, 2w)
8x Bronzewood Witch-Hunter Crossbows (40w)

Total Cost 23c, 10o, 60w, 12s

Equip the Battle Barge "Apollo" with:
- Small Topaz Core
- Small Lift Crystal
- 6x Trim Crystal Pairs
- 5x Reams of Webbing
- 4x Light Aether Cannon

Equip the Following Marine Squads:
Squad "Alpha"
- 1x Topaz Aetheric Pistols
- 1x Bronzewood Tower Shields
- 3x Bronzewood Witch-Hunter Crossbows
- 1x Topaz Aether Grenades

Squad "Beta"
- 1x Topaz Aetheric Gauntlets
- 1x Bronzewood Tower Shields
- 3x Bronzewood Witch-Hunter Crossbows

Squad "Gamma"
- 1x Aetheric Pistols
- 1x Bronzewood Tower Shields
- 3x Bronzewood Witch-Hunter Crossbows

Squad "Delta"
- 1x Aetheric Pistols
- 1x Bronzewood Tower Shields
- 3x Bronzewood Witch-Hunter Crossbows

Build the Hanging Crystal Garden at the Hive.

Load Squads Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta onto Apollo once complete.

I'm not sure about ships yet, but this should give us a very powerful attack group once the Apollo is completed for next turn.

A reminder, the battle barge can hold 6 squads, and we have the other transport back this turn that can hold 3 more squads.

We have 5 empty slots for reinforcements and extra equipment. At the very least, throw in some empty squad to fill casualties in the main squads.

Quote from: Ships, then marines
Production
1 Topaz VS core (3c)
1 Topaz S core (6c)
1 Topaz Trim web (1c 1o)

3 comm officers (1c 1o 1squad)
6 trim crystal pairs (6c)
4 kettleguns (4c 4o)
5 silk reams (10s)

21/24 crystal
6/13 ore
0/70 wood
10/37 silk

Create BATTLEBARGE!
-Topaz Medium core
-Topaz S lift
-6 trim crystal pairs
-4 kettleguns
-5 silk reams
-1 comm officer

Finish Causinae:
-Topaz S core
(Causinae is expendable and doesn't need full shroud. The topaz S core is cheap and will at least let its guns and crystals operate at full power. 1/3 the price of a medium core for half the shroud.)

Give Natalies VIII and IX comm officers.
Next turn we should have 26 crystal, 24 ore, 89 wood, and 37 silk to equip squads.

We need to be landing the marines next turn. We have shady spent far too much time mucking about.

We can equip and land marines in the same turn. Equiping marines now isn't any faster than next turn, just reduces the impact of any successful revisions or topaz rolls next turn.
We should start planning out the loadout now though.

I thought we couldn't load and unload marines in the same turn?

I was mistaken. In this case, I support waiting until next turn, so that we can make use of both of the transports.

Edit: other transport actually won't make it back in time, but we can have an immediate follow up drop, which would be nice.
