Oh. Right.

Well, that's because I almost gave you Wreth's resources, and I got most of the way through before I realized things were terribly, terribly wrong, but I'd already ticked that on my checklist.

I would rather we direct the AIM die to the Topaz Lance, unless that would limit our Crystal bank.

If we want to launch the Causinae this year, we'll need 18 crystal. So we could put two dice into lances, but we'd have to choose between Topaz products and the Medium Core.

Conversely, we could finally build a bunch of hanging gardens at the demi-spires. For 2 of each cows we increase our crystal output by 1. If we did nothing with our crystal and ore but build gardens we can deploy 8 of 15 to our demi-spires, increasing our crystal output even more.

We seriously need to increase our ore output.

I think we should focus all efforts for the next couple turns to to building a battlebarge and filling it with troops and landing at Three Captains. The sooner we accomplish that the sooner we can move the blockading ships. We already have most of the topaz stuff necessary for the barge.

We should probably make a tactic for landing under fire or landing sneakily behind enemy lines.

I imagine they've designed some sort of defensive tactic as well by now, so I would quite like to improve our offensive ability as well. Either taking another look at long range grenades (be it grenade-bows or something else) as well as an offensive tactic as powerful as bait-and-strike.

We haven't tried a rifle grenade yet.

We haven't tried a rifle grenade yet.
Great idea, shoot grenades out of a glorified grenade! If the musket fails (which it will) it won't just kill you but your whole fireteam!
(In case you can't tell I am actually in favour of this. It would be an amazing counter to their cannons. Just feel sorry for any soldier issued the weapon.)

((We have considered crossbow-launched grenades before.

Also we could build small ballistas and use them to kill cannons.))

Considered? We've tried that revision twice!

Hmm. Could we revise a big witch-hunter, fired from tripod, treated as crew-served instead of personal weapon? Might be worthwhile. If only to get a form of artillery from revision instead of design.

On the other hand, we could leave the sniper weapon until the Lance is done, as Helmacon suggested.

And humans move a lot slower than airships, making the time of contact much more reasonable.

Giving a squad or 2 grappling gear means they could make full use of flanking tactics even during an initial assault. Additionally, we could have a skiff or 2 use strafe infrastructure before deploying to create a safe landing zone at the very least, so we aren't landing under fire.

Regardless of thier state of preparedness, using our ambush tactic should put us on near even terms. It doesn't work as a true ambush, but it should mean that our men are within grenade throwing distance when the battle starts, which should be all we need to deal with any defenses they might have, and might even kill a cannon or two.

I would expect about even losses using said strategies.  Without equipment upgrades, I don't think we could get it much better than that.

Battle Barge
Progress: 8/8 (3,4)

The Battle Barge blueprints are finalized, stamped with the seal of approval, and the testing hull is relinquished to military use. Then, and only then, are the engineers allowed to scamper back to working on the Lance project.

AIM
Progress: 8/27 (2)

Engineers working on AIM, despite it being an interesting project, are still unhappy that they aren't working on death beams. Progress is made, but it's hardly what one would hope for.

Spire Kasgyre's Production stands at
13(+10)/y Crystal, 24/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 13/85 banked
19/y Wood, 70/95 banked
10/y Silk, 37/50 banked

It is now the revision phase. You have 2 dice to spend.

Imperial Topaz will be available in the production stage.

Awesome.

Hey Draig. Do we have to transport Hanging Crystal Gardens out to our demi-spires, or can we just build them there?

My suggestions:

Grenade Bolts round three. Or if you guys think that's throwing too much at the same dead end:

Grenade Sling - Slings have been used since Neolithic times on Earth, so it should be very simple to both produce and train our marines to use. With a bit of practice, they should be able to reliably launch grenades many times further than they can be thrown.

Specialised Lance Crystals - Lance Crystals are a completely new concept, so there are naturally going to be inefficiencies in the production line. Improved chemical baths, alterations in the vat temperatures as well as refined growth mediums produce a higher number of satisfactory crystals. This should drive down the cost of the weapon primarily, and potentially making it less likely to violently self-destruct when quenched.
