Been discussing most of this on discord but have gained much more knowledge based on input, I think some final touching to our light cannons before we get new improved cannons will be much appreciated by our skiffs and can still be of some use to our Viper or implement new technology to a cannon, a revision like...

Expanded Water Reserves - Light Aetheric Cannons:
Our current generation of kettleguns utilize hydraulic pipes to maintain improved cooling that only last for the first minute of a fight, by a process of expanding the water reserves within a light cannon it will allow it to theoretically double the minute the kettleguns have in a fight, with low expectations of at least 50% increased of the time in kettleguns. A secondary goal in this revision is to make the copper pipes that insert water into the cannons to be more efficient in the process and positioning so that cannon requires less water to take full effect of its improved cooling.

Also infantry tactics like ambushing seem to complex for a revision, some simpler "take cover and don't advance until enemy is dead" seems much more simpler.

Defensive Fire - Infantry Tactics:
Currently our soldiers massed in a single formation and just asking to get hit, this currently tactics requires defensive positioning so that the solders take cover but they do not advance on the enemy lines until they assuredly fully dead. Units with long-ranged weapons provide lethal barrages and suppression, with units with closer-ranged weapons like gauntlets and cutlasses provide protection and support against flanks and advances from the enemy. Short-ranged units can still provide pot-shots if they see the opportunity to do so.

Wait, this is for revisions? Have we already decided upon a design?

I feel like the issue of communication is much better addressed through optics rather than flags. Sure, it might take a design, but it would be well worth it what with all the other stuff it would open up.

This. This is what I meant by putting two dice into the time cost. We would probably have rolled better than a three. Now,  it'll cost us 34 resources per die, and it'll cost on average 13 dice. That's 442 resources. Will all the demi spires we make 59 resources a year. That's over nine years of production. A viper costs 90 to fully kit out, so instead we could just build five of our own for the same cost.

It'll take a decade to build this,  and assuming it produces one Viper per year,  it'll take another half decade to make back its cost. And that assumes we do nothing else for the next ten years.  No designs,  no production. Nothing.  I imagine this war will take over two decades to finish,  looking at the last few games,  but this thing just costs too much. Better to make a skyskiff line and refit our current to Vipers if you are so adamant on having two production lines.

On a less pessimistic note,  for communication I suggest light based morse code. Polished bronze mirrors during the day and shuttered lamps at night. Way longer range than semaphore.

Infantry Ambush Tactics
This is a tactic focused on stealth and indirect combat this inculdes finding ways to disrupt the enemy supplies, contaminating their water and finding ways to deploy traps or other methods to kill the enemy indirectly. Marines are trained to move stealthily in groups. Marines stealthily whittle down the enemy numbers by picking off isolated groups with quiet weapons or coordinated ambushes on larger groups of enemies. Marine forces are to be encouraged in this doctrine to take weapons and equipment off fallen enemies to supplement their own supplies. This is a guerilla tactic intent on causing attrition.

Whilst a good suggestion, I think Infantry Ambush Tactics is more likely to be a design than a revision, as it is a completely new way of fighting compared to Napoleonic battle lines. Defensive Fire is much more of a revision of current doctrine.

Also, from what I understand we currently do not refill the barrel-mounted water pipes during combat at all, which is why we're back to the default fire rate once it all boils off. Simply being able to add more water to the pipes would be a significant improvement. This could be done by having a fixed funnel on one end, and having a crewman pour water from a canister. Or we could just make the barrel water tight and thermal shock resistant and pour water directly on it.

Hrmm on reflection I suspect you may be right there it is probably more than enough to warrant a full design. Something to keep in mind then for the next design phase.

Well, I think our existing crystals could use a rework; even the output of our medium crystal is reliant on the design of the small ones.

Crystal efficacy & refinement:
With our efforts on making more powerful crystal cores having reached fruition and seen active use, the question remains to solve the efficacy of the crystals themselves. Currently, the internal structure of the crystal is inefficient at either energy generation or storage, things which need to be solved with a rethink and redesign of the internal structure of the crystal.

Re-synchronisation tools:
The serpentis has performed admirably, the risk of such a powerful and valuable vessel being rendered entirely useless with a de-synchronisation of it's core means that we must develop the tools to effectively re-sync the crystals in the field; as the class is reliant on a multi-core crystal for it's performance, such tools are necessary to maintain effective performance of the viper class and any other vessel which may yet use our medium core crystals..

Yeah we are at the revision phase, we spent a design on trying to build a production line for the Vipers and its going to require serious resource investment even with a 6 on the Cost. Anyways, Crystal refinement seems like a design because it would be a serious boon for a all-around passive crystal bonus the other one seems like a revision though, but reducing the problem the medium core crystal with de-synchronization is that's going to eventually be designed

Looks like you're still hung for your second die. I'll roll a die in about an hour if you don't come to any conclusions.
