Current Technology

Spoiler: Tech (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Tactics (click to show/hide)

I grabbed these from the beginning of this turn.  Haven't added the Viper or Medium Crystal though,  because I'm on my phone.

The Viper can receive ten cannon,  two armour units, one core,  one lift and four/eight/twelve trim crystals and six reams of webbing.

1 cannon costs 1 ore, 1 crystal
Armor costs 3 ore per sectione
We already have a medium core crystal
A small lift crystal cost 3 crystal,  2 ore
Trim  crystals cost half a crystal each
Webbing costs 2 silk a ream

As we don't have a medium core I suggest extra tell crystals to make up for it.  I don't think the trim web is a feasible option at the moment however.

I suggest following load out for the HMA Viper
10 cannon (10o,  10c)
2 armor (6o)
Prototype Medium Core Crystal
Small lift crystal (3c, 2o)
12 trim crystals (6c)
6 reams of webbing (12s)

Total cost: 18 ore, 19 crystal,  12 silk

This could leave our new marines under equipped though, so we may want to drop the armor sections for now.

Well.. Movement is to move everything we got to the three captins and attempt to land. Should be 7 skiffs + the viper + 2 transports in total. (What a fleet!)

We outfit the viper with all the fixings before that. All that leaves is what to produce for our new marine squads. Tarcis had a thing for that earlier that looked pretty good.

Also, tactics. Let's use our new pincer ambush tactics. Heh.. This is gonna be fun...

Edit @ kash : yea, let's drop the armor sections for now. We could bump for webbing to make up for it. Also, a med core is more power than a viper needs, and gives it a super thick shroud. Should be fine without armor.

We've only got the one viper, we aren't in a position to skimp on it's quality. Besides, we can equip our marine units well enough. The trim webs will help our viper immensely though by allowing it to be that much more manoeuvrable in 2d (3d requires a better lift crystal). More to the point though, as a web the trim subsystems are that much harder to destroy too.

Quote from: Production Plan "Wreth fucked up NOW!"
Refit Prototype Viper Corvette RKNV Serpentis with prototype medium core crystal, small lift crystal (3 crystal, 2 ore), 6 reams of webbing (12 silk) six sets of trim webs (6 crystal, 6 ore & 18 wood), two sections of light bronze armour (6 ore), ten kettleguns (10 ore, 10 crystal)

Subtotal: 19 Crystal, 24 Ore, 18 Wood & 12 Silk

Marine Equipment: 2x Grappling gear, 2x Bronze Cutlass, 2x Bronze armour (Officer) & 2x Aethersilk Vests (Squad Leaders & Officer). [8 ore total]

Total cost: 19 Crystal, 32 Ore, 18 Wood & 22 Silk

Quote
Spire Kasgyre's production stands at,
11/y Crystal, 33/55 Banked
10/y Ore, 24/50 banked
11/y Wood, 21/55 banked
9/y Silk, 29/45 banked

We don't have that much ore unfortunately. The Skyskiff and dhingy are both mentioned as using their trim crystals to compensate for their underpowered lift crystal,  so I believe we can do the same here.

Draignean, can the medium core crystal fit on the Viper?  It looks like it totally can.

The viper is vulnerable without escorts so we need to keep those sky skiffs with it.

IT can Void, we've already known that :P

Anyway, dropping the armour from the marines and the ship gets us in ad the amount of ore we have. I'm not too worried about the under-armouring of those two squads as the others can definitely make up for it.

As for strategies, given the relative success of the skiffs from the three captains means the Wrethi forces aren't focused over there. We should keep that unit raiding while our main thrust hits the unfinished spire; the larger open areas will mean our greater numbers are more effective and our ranged fire especially painful for them.

I think we need three captains' ore more than the wood and crystal of the unfinished. Wreth also really seems to want us to go to the unfinished, so I bet there's some horrid looking gribblies there.

Ore is something we already have covered in our local demi-spires. But crystal is not. And we're going to need more crystal to get more vipers in the air.

The only design of ours that needs plenty of crystal and wood is the viper, but everything needs ore.

But the viper needs large amounts of crystal, larger than the ore it needs. And we can't get troops to the spires without vipers to clear the way.

I agree with hitting the unfinished but not with leaving the raiding unit where they are. Our skiffs our out classed and they'll (hopefully) be sending a force of skiffs of their own to take them out. I can't imagine they'll let a group of our skiffs hang around one of their demi spires unanswered. If our skiffs are gone by the time they get there that's three to four enemy skiffs that are doing nothing this turn. So I suggest we send our skiffs to their rightmost demi spire so they can ambush any retreating stragglers from our assualt on the unfinished. In doing so we'll also be able to scout the other enemy demi spires and possibly learn what happened with our other raiding group.

Another possibility to consider is that it might be an idea to only deploy troops from one transport on to the unfinished (or the three captains) and save the other for next turn when we might be able to push to an enemy demi spire.

Yet another thing to consider is that while crystal would be excellent attacking the three captains means we can link up with our raiding force. The longer that raiding force lingers behind enemy lines the more likely it is to get wiped out.

I only said raiding, I never said where it had to raid :P

And it's almost assured to be wiped out like the last group however, they've got units all around. It's just a matter of ensuring they can slip by undetected due to the enemy diverting troops elsewhere. But, again, as we;re getting more ore and wood from the demispires, the crystal of the unfinished is going to be more valuable.

. Yes, but we also need ore to equip our marines. And if we plan to switch our shipyard to produce vipers then it won't matter how expensive one is.

Being able to supplement the production line is welcome advantage that we shouldn't underestimate. And taking the unfinished spire gives the opportunity to land on the burning mountain if you are worried about ore.

True, but I'd like ore sooner rather than later.
