I don't really get the intensity of the opposition to the medium dock revision.

1)If it needs a good roll to be useful then we should do as Wiz suggests and spend two dice on it increasing our odds of a good roll significantly. In my view spending two dice to get an extra Viper a turn is more than worth it if we can get it.
2)The medium docks will be relevant for the rest of the game and as such they will carry forward any small improvements we make to them where as most of the Blackstone revisions are pretty specific to this situation.
3)The total number of ships a PL can support is five times it's per turn production. Even a small increase will still increase the totals ships it can support while also giving us more room to improve our patterns.
4)This is our last chance to add a revision to it without penalty.

Blackstone needs defenders, and we do not have the luxury of shipping in well trained marines. Recruit every able-bodied and willing adult, put whatever passes for a weapon in their hands, and tell them to fight for the Queen and Princess and Kasgyre!

The militia should act in support of and coordinate with whatever marines are present. Any trained marines present should lead the milita and give them a bare minimum of training.

Our Militia men and women don't have to go armed with just sticks and stones:

Appropriate pieces of wood can be carved into bows, or even crossbows in a poor imitation of our Witch-Hunters.
Knives and other sharp objects can be tied to sticks to form spears, for throwing or for stabbing with.
Many tools can be modified into more effective weapons. Shovels sharpened, scythes straightened, etc.
Almost anything can be used as a club, but if you carve a proper handle or form one of wrapped cloth, and attach some nails or studs to the head it becomes a deadly mace.
Planks of wood can be nailed together into shields, good for blocking the poisoned bolts Wreth still uses.
Strips of cloth or cord can be used to make slings for throwing rocks.
A larger sling on the end of a stick is a staff sling, it can throw larger rocks further, though probably limited in use to the largest caverns due to its high arc.
A glass bottle can be filled with spirits, lamp oil, or any other flammable liquid to make a firebomb.

Being our largest ore-producing colony, Blackstone should have a lot of picks, hammers, and other mining and forging tools ready for use as weapons.

With these weapons we can arm our militia to defend Blackstone. Should a marine ever find themselves unsatisfactorily armed, they can do the same.

Helm, why would we use that research for? We need soldiers, not some research that won´t impact the battlefield until we do a related project. Most of what it will do is give us a plus one when attempting a design, and we have more pressing needs that better crystals. Please, consider the needs we have now. Sympathetic crystals are a great idea, for not for this turn.

It took me longer to decide than I'd like to admit. I don't know if the 30% figure touted around by the med-docks revision crew is still being touted, but it doesnt sound realistic to me. Still, if it does anything it should help our Alpha Strike.
