I am assuming/hoping that the BM advance eill be edited in, or that Draig will interpret it as an advance even without edit.

Jerick, you should also edit in something for the Natalie at Blackstone to do. Either continue hiding and scouting or retreat and join the rest of the fleet.

Jerick, if you edit your plan to explicit mention that the burned mountain marines are advancing, I'll vote for it. Otherwise they'll hold position.

Yes you are right. I think retreating right now is the best option, we are short of ships and we can get intel from the spire itself.

Blackstone

The siege continues at Blackstone, and while the civilians transports do attempt to make their runs and unexpected moments, it isn't terribly effective. A few more get through, but it might not make that much of a difference in the long run. Another enemy Windrider has moved in from the Three Captains region, although further inspection via spyglass reveals that it's actually the one damaged by spire guns originally.

At this point the gunnery positions can do little more than ward off the worst of the attacks, and are too scattered to inflict significant damage against the larger vessels. One more enemy skiff is brought down by lucky fire from mutually supportive positions, but that's the extent of the permanent damage. Soon there won't be a damn thing to prevent the Wrethans from rolling out the red carpet.

The only relief in the bleak report is the news that the scouting Natalie was able to safely disengage, heading back to provide support at the Hive's line.

Kills: One Wrethan skiff
Losses: 70% of Blackstone's production, spire gun defenses reduced to 25%.

The Hive

The Natalie from Blackstone joins the two remaining vipers in the second line of defense against the Wrethan invasion. Thankfully, they're not called upon to fight yet.

The Glowcove

Two Natalies move up to take positions at the Glowcove. While they might not do a great against a fleet, they're in position to at least deter Wrethan piracy coming through the ruins of the Unfinished.

The Unfinished

Able to disengage from the Eastern Wrethan demispire without issue, The Jupiter and the Dionysus move through the Unfinished Spires Aerosphere without incident, their sole remaining escort skiff spotting nothing.

Burned Mountain

The plume from the burned mountain is in a favorable position for making a landing, and, without any interference spotted, the Jupiter and the Dionysus move in for nice and gentle troop landings with the fiery spire.

Inside the Spire

The captain of the remaining troops inside the spire is not pleased. He is not pleased at all. In the best case scenario, he'd hoped to be pulled back for actually work defending his country and people. Otherwise, he'd hoped for actual equipment to make attempting to claim this godforsaken spire slightly less shit.

What he got was a lot more bodies and the order to advance against the heat.

His response back is terse, and a sharpsighted reader can see the marks where he's scraped out several sections of profanity and replaced them with language more befitting an officer. He signs his letter off with a line of poetry; 'ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die'.

And die he does. His successor notes his death as heatstroke, due in large part to what appeared to be a sudden magma surge within the walls the superheated the chamber his squad was exploring. This, she notes, is not an uncommon occurrence. The lava flows do not seem constant, and the main obstacle to the current pushing is finding a path where the temperature keeps to constant levels of ungodly heat, instead of occasionally spiking up to oven temperatures. Well, the main obstacle along with the absurd heat itself, the occasional cracking of the walls to release poisonous cavern gasses, and presence of actual lava flows breaking into tunnels.

With dedication, persistence, and utter stoicism in the face of constant attrition, the force is able to plot out a course that seems to maintain a steady temperature of only about 135 (~57) degrees. Going forward, however, will likely be worse. The new officer in charge reports that the path breaks out into some kind of collection of stacked caves-similar in shape to bubbles. From what limited runs she's been able to do, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of these bubbles making up the Spire's core. Worse, they appear to be the source of rhythmic thumping heard earlier. Strange machinery pierces the floor in various places, humming with life. Periodically, doors of unusual metal seal off one of the bubble caves, and the temperature spikes in the ambient area as a deep mechanical beat grows. The officer theorizes that, somehow, these bubbles are holding chambers for magma being pumped in stages from the surface.

While there is plenty of warning (most of the time) to get out of a bubble before it seals, the temperature is still ridiculous, and will result in even worse casualties than already experienced.

Kasgyre has gained ground at the Burned Mountain
Losses: Squad 9, Squad 8, 50% Squad 7

Spire Kasgyre

A new Natalie comes into service, and two more squads of marines stand ready.

It is now the beginning of the year 379 AR.

Spire Kasgyre's Production stands at
13(+12)/y Crystal, 49/115 Banked
17(+2)/y Ore, 40/85 banked
19/y Wood, 47/95 banked
10/y Silk, 39/50 banked

It is the design and project maintenance phase. You have 5 dice to spend.

Whilst ethically questionable, our losses at Burned Mountain are sustainable.

Im also very pleased that Blackstone's defences are still holding out, that should give us the time we need to finish the Production Line.

We do have one issue however, as of next turn we will be at our maximum silk storage and will start to waste shook.  We need every resource we can get for this production line though, so one of our revisions will need to address this somehow.

Okay, we can muster four Natalies and two Bronzewood mostly-Topaz Vipers. We could probably deploy to Blackstone and prevent Wreth from landing if we wanted.

It was brought up by Jerick that we may have a resource banking issue with silk. We could perhaps improve this with a revision.

So, I have an idea
We still have a few spire guns on blackstone
not many
but a few
and they should have finished TC thins turn, and will be landing next turn
Given that the med-docks makes our Vipers a little bit expendable, I would be willing to use our fleet to counter push the demi-spire this turn.
We could even snipe the enemy transports
and if it forces them to fall back and regroup, the spire guns regenerate
with lances
and reducing the enemy force at all should provide more resources from the spire

Yeah, I pointed that silk thing out earlier. We can do this by directly increasing the size of our silk warehouse (the easier option) or by increasing our silk output like we did with ore as the warehouse will automatically expand (The harder option). We could also increase the output of our other resources to compensate.

Personally, I'd like to increase resource output of crystal, silk and wood and do our silk warehouse. Doing all four gives us the best chance of making our deadline.

I'd be quite happy to deploy ships to Blackstone now they've taken some casualties, as I mentioned in one of my other posts.
