I don't see how its possible to remove the ore cost from the pistol, since the barrel and cooling fins have to be made of metal to work.

Fixing the mini vanguard might be worth it, but I don't see it fully replacing the kettlegun as long as the kettlegun costs 1 ore and the minivan costs 3. If we revise it to fix leaking and reduce cost it could be amazing.

We should give our Vipers a proper medium mount that lets them actually aim and use their vanguards effectively and comfortably. Instead of the sweltering blind bullet spam we have now.

I suppose we could instead revise the pistol to not use wood at all, but as Ore is currently more valuable than Wood, that's the one I chose to revise out the use of.

Streamlined Metal Aether Pistols Just like the other revision, except this one is intended to cut out the usage of Wood in it's entirety, without increasing Ore or Crystal cost.

We already have a Vanguard Viper version as well, which implements the Vanguard better than our current brute-force approach.

The vanguard viper version needs four vanguards. Giving one viper four vanguards is a terrible idea because it means that one ship suddenly becomes a massive target. It will be focused on first, and it will get shot down and we'll lose all our vanguards. We also can't effectively split our firepower between different fleets. Having one vanguard per viper in a good mount would be a lot better. I don't see us using that specialized viper anytime soon.

If we want to save on ore:
Improved Helmet Manufacturing
Switching our helmet manufacturing from ancient hand forging techniques to a modern sheet metal stamping method will allow us to produce them much more quickly and without skilled labour, greatly reducing the cost. Setting up dedicated tooling for helmets will make it just as efficient to buy them separately from the full suit.

Let's think- what are the core elements of our military? How can we make them cheaper? That's the way forward I see.

Viper Medium Mount
Retrofit the Viper Corvette to include one proper medium mount, front and center. Can comfortably mount a Vanguard Cannon or any other medium cannon. Allows the gunner to look and aim where they're shooting, has some vertical and horizontal rotation, doesn't turn into a sauna. Designed with bronzewood in mind, using it to reduce the amount of structural metal needed.

Lets turn our topaz vanguards into the wunderwaffe they should be. Draig did say that a general medium mount would be easier than a specialized small mount like our current one.

Mini Vanguard 2.0
Rework and simplify the overcomplicated cooling systems left behind from the original vanguard, with the goals of reducing leakage to increase rate of fire and reducing the excessive ore cost.

Hmm. @Draiganean, how many more hanging crystal gardens can we build? Trying to figure out what I want to do for next turns as well. Thinking further resource improvements.

We've got the max at Kasgyre, but we can have up to five or the amount off crystal yielded (whichever is more) at each demi spire.

Viper Medium Mount
Efficacy: 2
With the Vanguard being the closest thing to a medium gun that Kasgyre has, but still not quite emblematic of the role, the design team fights back and forth over how big the mount should be, how much cabling it should be allowed to draw, how much structural reinforcement it needs, etc. Things get a bit crazy when one of the engineers asks what would happen if the Lance was fitted for a medium mount, which basically results in a portfolio of 'design documents' containing pictures of Kasgyrite ships firing swords of light while crude renditions of the Wrethan navy explode in the distance.

It takes a bit to get them back on track, and the eventual product of their labors is.... lackluster. It's the viper, with all the top-deck guns removed, and a far too large frontal section given over to the turret mount. Inexplicably, they've also taken out a number of the trim crystal mounts in order to divert, and this is a direct quote from the report, 'MOAR POWER TO LANCE!!! PEW PEW'. Underlying the 'pew pew' is a doodle of a viper firing a comically huge beam of aether at the Wrethan flag.

Oversight committees are looking into whether the engineers should be switched to decaf.

I suppose it isn't dreadful. Not exactly good either though.

Anyway, it is guaranteed that they will try to claim back TC's airspace now that we have deployed infantry there, so we should try and do something about that.

We either need to pull back, or do as they did and snipe transports to buy time.

We are down a viper and a few skiffs, I doubt we would win in a major engagement.

Quote from: Operation Mallet Tap
Production
Buy Topaz Vanguard (3c 5o)
Buy topaz trim pair (1c)
Buy 6 squads of aether grenades (6c 6o)
Buy 3 signal flashers (1c 1o 1 squad)
=12 ore, 11 crystal, 1 squad

Give Natalie X a comm officer.

Load 3 squads equipped with 2 grenades each on the Dionysus. Named Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta.

Deployment
Natalie X escorts Dionysus to Three Captains.
Battlebarge Jupiter scouts back to Kasgyre.
One-Eyed Will scouts back to Three Captains.

Every other ship at Three Captains (Anguis, Viperidae, Causinae, 5 Natalies) use coordinated fire. Firing at transports first.

Squads Alpha and Beta continue to use shield wall. Squads Gamma and Delta flank.
Dionysus lands its troops.
Squads Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta act as reserve, reinforcing the other squads with troops and grenades. Also setting traps with prepared bait and strike to help in case we are pushed back any amount. If we advance then disable the traps and keep the grenades.

The squads at Burned Mountain also set traps and use prepared bait and strike, on the slim chance that Wreth boots come stomping in. Also remember the trap locations so they can keep the grenades.
This plan is to defend Three Captains airspace. We could retreat instead and leave a few ambusher skiffs. We could also potentially keep Jupiter there as another defender, mainly to tank hits since it is our most durable ship.

It pains me to not buy the topaz medium core, but we need that topaz vanguard and we need to send more grenades to Three Captains.

Plan looks pretty good. Are we going to mount the topaz on a viper next turn?
