I think we can do both, so long as loading is perfectly safe. That one time we tried at a local demi-spire there happened to be a pirate.

I'm up for equipping ships first, but I'd prefer a marine loadout similar to what I suggested.

Your marine loadout is pretty good. Really needs more grenades, and really needs mobile covers though.
We can make 3 topaz bronzewood light mobile covers.

If we put the light mobile covers in a squad with tower shields, then we probably don't need a bronzewood one. The shields will take the physical attacks and the mobile cover will give shroud protection to the entire fireteam.

The mobile covers should really be part of the shield wall along with the shields. It is very unoptimized not to do so.

Quote from: a proposed next turn marines loadout
26 crystal, 24 ore, 89 wood, and 37 silk, and 12 TC available.

3 Topaz Bronzewood light mobile covers (6c 6o 12w 6s)
1 Bronzewood light mobile cover (5c 2o 4w 2s)

4*4 bronzewood tower shields (20w)
6*4 aether pistols (6c 6o 6w)
8*4 bronzewood witch-hunters (40w)
3*16 aether grenades (3c 3o)

20c 17o 82w 8s

Squad Alpha
Topaz bronzewood light mobile cover
4 bronzewood tower shields
4 topaz aether pistols
4 aether pistols
8 bronzewood witch-hunters
16 topaz grenades

Squad Beta
Topaz bronzewood light mobile cover
4 shields
4 topaz gauntlets
4 pistols
8 bronzewood crossbows
16 grenades

Squad Gamma
Topaz bronzewood light mobile cover
4 shields
8 pistols
8 bronzewood crossbows
16 grenades

Delta
Bronzewood light mobile cover
4 shields
8 pistols
8 bronzewood crossbows
16 grenades

We could use the remaining resource scraps to give our soldiers a few more grenades, some commander bronze armour, silk vests, a couple more shields or witch-hunters?

Where are you getting Topaz Mobile Cover from?

Also, the mobile cover doesn't require marines to fight one-handed, so you don't need as many pistols in there.

We have 3 topaz VS cores. We can swap topaz VS cores into mobile covers. Draig said so.
We don't have enough wood to give out that many crossbows, not with the shields and covers. 50/50 split between pistols and crossbows seems pretty good to me.

We clearly need Aether rifles, just to make me feel better.

Anyway, have a strategy plan:

Quote from: Combat Deployment
Dionysis and escorts move to Glowcove

Ophidian and Anguis move to left-most Wrethi Demi-spire (we really need to find out their names) and Strafe Infrastructure
Canary moves to left-most Wrethi Demi-spire and scouts for the Vipers

Viperidae moves to, and Blockades, Three Captains
One TC Natalie Scouts, the other two Blockade

Natalie at Kasgyre holds position to escort Battle Barge Apollo

Marines at Burned mountain do not advance. Defensive Fire.

Since our production is entirely based on gearing towards next turn, it shouldn't matter which one we end up picking.

I do not like abandoning Three Captains yet. We dont have ground. We need to keep the air until we land then we can stop the blockade.

We can use Causinae (+natalies) to escort the battlebarge. We can move out Viperidae and use it to attack, or maybe reinforce TC while a TC viper leaves to attack.

We're not abandoning it, we are in fact advancing our front line past it, whilst maintaining a presence to prevent defences being built.

It's silly to have so much firepower hanging around at TC not doing anything. One Viper plus three Natalies is enough to maintain a perimeter. The additional two Vipers and the Pattern A skiff is overkill and wasted. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wrethi marines are keepng tabs on our fleet numbers allowing Wreth to just avoid our fleet.

Instead we should push our clear naval advantage and use make the most of that anti-spire tactic.

Here is a deployment plan that goes with my previous production plan. Leaves TC less vulnerable, sends a small fleet out to hunt ships at the wreth spires instead of strafing infrastructure.
Sending Dionysus and escorts back to Kasgyre via TC instead of Glowcove doesn't take any longer and is safer for the ships and buffs TC.

Quote
The marines at Burned Mountain use defensive fire and do not advance, try to minimize casualties.

Dionysus, 2 Natalies, and One-Eyed Will fly from Burned Mountain to Three Captains. One-Eyed Will scouting.
Viperidae travels from Hive to Three Captains.
Natalie VIII travels from Kasgyre to Three Captains.

Ophidian, 2 Natalies, and Canary fly to the Wreth left and then central Demi-spire. Attempting to sneak and kill any ships with coordinated ambush. Canary scouting.

That leaves Anguis, Viperidae, 4 Natalies, One-Eyed Will, and Dionysus at Three Captains. Will should continue scouting. The 2 vipers and 4 Natalies should blockade with coordinated fire. Dionysus should hang back and coordinate the coordinated fire.

Spoiler: production (click to show/hide)

I'd prefer to strafe infrastructure, but it'd better than being completely passive.

I am extremely against pushing up our front line at this point. We need to consolidate or fleet.

Think about it. They are burning skiffs every turn now, which means that their pl is at capacity. Why haven't they attached yet? Because they are preparing something other than skiffs. Either they have been building up supperskiffs, or they have finally made a large core ship. Either way, I think we are going to need the whole fleet for this next battle. Pushing out around enemy AA is asking for a disaster.

I'm just getting a bad feeling about this. We are definitely going to end up seeing things we haven't seen before during this next engagement. Let's not take unnecessary risks until we know what they are.

Once we win the next air engagement, we can pirate all we want for a while, but it's a dangerous thing to do right now.

They are definitely building up something, because how these games work. That is exactly why I want to push up, to force them to choose between pushing back or building up. As is we are letting them build up.  I want to force them to react.

I agree, pushing may reveal new ships.
