Quote from: Battle Barge mod D
An enlarged, deep bellied ship, appearing at first glace to be a scaled up Transport Barge. Unlike the Transport Barge, it is defined to be a military transport. Thus it has space for a medium core, trim webs, spare reams of aethersilk webbing and a pair of small mounts each at the stern and prow, laid out and rotatable such that two or three cannons can fire on the same target. This is not meant to make it a competent combat vessel, but instead to discourage opportunistic raiders. It also has mounting points for additional armour plates and is designed to hold 12 TC of marines/materiel. The hull is designed and optimized to be constructed primarily of Bronzewood. Where possible we use Bronzewood instead of metal to reduce the ore cost.

The difference between model C and D is ore cost. Trim webs cost extra ore even when the hull is designed for them, so I removed them since acceleration isn't a large priority for this ship.
Also made mention of bronzewood since ship designed to be made from the material should perform better than a normal hull design converted to bronzewood.

Let's finish what we have before we start new projects guys. I'm all in favor of the battle barge, but bronze wood first.

I think we should do Bronzewood, then battle barge. Let's try and maintain air superiority.

Bronzewood
Progress: 15/11 (5,6,3) 1 dice refunded

The growers are able to get a steady production settled reasonably quickly, and after a bit of hemming and hawing the engineers approve of the use of Bronzewood as a structural material.

Spire Kasgyre's Production stands at
13(+10)/y Crystal, 41/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 26/85 banked
19/y Wood, 85/95 banked
10/y Silk, 31/50 banked

It is now the revision phase. You have 3 dice to spend.

Revision: Air fins

Simple leather and wood fins that attach to the side of a ship to act as airfoils. This will provide yet another level of maneuverability to the ships, but more importantly give us a system of maneuverability separate from the traditional trim webs. For instance, it should now be possible to throw the back half of your ship to the right using webs, and the front half to the left using fins, and thereby rapidly invert the orientation of your ship.

Alternatively...

Revision: Modular Webbing

Each trim web covers a specific area of the ship, and is wired to operate independently. This should do the same thing as the fins, without the airfoils, but while laying some groundwork for more complex ship parts.

Strengthened Bronzewood
We commend the growers for their excellent work on Bronzewood. It is because of our faith in them and respect for their accomplishments that we ask one more thing: to make it even stronger, turning it from a great material into a greater material.

Bronzewood Witch-Hunter
Replace the shrouded steel bow-arms of the Witch-Hunter Crossbow with arms made of Bronzewood (a very fancy new material), making it cost less ore but significantly more wood. The engineers have permission to make the rest of the crossbow out of bronzewood and carve and laquer at as much as they want as long as they reduce the ore cost. Might also move the weight further back making it less tiresome to aim.

Bronzewood Viper
Changing the Viper Corvette design to optimize it for bronzewood construction, hopefully eking out some extra performance and durability. Also replacing metal pieces with Bronzewood where possible to reduce the ore cost.

The bronze wood viper is unnecessary. We don't have to make specific patterns using the bronze wood. Its simply a variant on a preexisting design. It like topaz, but for wood.

Lets take another stab at Leather armor too.

Fireproof Bronzewood
With additional selective breeding, as well as some alterations to the curing process, Bronzewood will be improved from fairly fire resistant to fireproof.

I agree that the "bronzewood __ " revisions are redundant. Unless we want to modify the item behavior, it's just a cost change.

I would prefer tower shields over leather armor, personally.

True, that revision isn't strictly necessary. It is possible to built a viper out of bronzewood without it. Bronzewood is still a different material, with different ratios of strength to weight to volume, and the old hull pattern will not fully take advantage of its superior properties. A hull designed for oak and made of bronzewood will not perform as well as a hull designed for bronzewood and made of bronzewood. The intention isn't to "unlock" bronzewood viper hulls but to improve them.

I can support trying light armour again soon. But it should be something other than leather to avoid diminishing returns. Chitin is an option, it would use silk and we have lots of silk to spare. Edit: Or wooden shields.
