Here are a couple revisions to improve our basic weapons. We should wait till after the referendum to vote but we can discuss revisions now.

Aether Pistol
The aether gauntlet is a very impractical and flawed form for a weapon to take. We can achieve much greater accuracy and ease of aiming by putting the same crystals inside a more conventional pistol frame. The signal flasher can be easily adapted for this purpose, with all the unnecessary timing clockwork and second trigger removed. It will still overheat at the same rate as the aether gauntlet but it can be dropped or holstered instead of giving the user disfiguring gauntlet burns. Comes with a leather holster.

Vanguard Light Aether Cannon Variant
The Vanguard is basically 3 light aether cannons stuck together with an improved cooling system. It should be possible to isolate a single barrel as a stand alone light cannon and keep the improved cooling; essentially revising a next generation light aether cannon down from the Vanguard instead of up from the Kettlegun. It should be comparable to a kettlegun except with the initial minute of rapid fire lasting indefinitely, and it should fit on a standard light gun swivel. By removing the complex mechanics necessary to rotate the barrels and reducing the cooling system to handle 1/3 the load we can also make it cheaper and lighter than the quotient of its parts.

I like the idea of the aether pistol. throw in a leather holster, which would manifest as a wood cost, and i would be willing to drop a dice for it.

Alright, time to revise now that the referendum is concluded.

helmacon, I added a leather holster to the aether pistol.

We also desperately need some way to improve our transportation safety.

Lifeboats
Our transports already have dingies to ferry supplies to spire and back. These dingies should be kept in easily launched positions and men should be drilled in quickly boarding and launching them if the transport is in danger of sinking. That way troops and aeronauts have a chance of surviving the sinking of their transport and making it to the nearest spire. We should also try to fit more dingies on the transports if possible to save more men.

Smuggler Viper
A viper modified to have a small amount of transport capacity, enough to carry 1 squad and their equipment. To make room for transportation we can cram everything we can closer together, hide storage compartments in any free space, enlarge the tail section if we still need to make more room, and reduce the forward gun battery if we still really really need more room. The end result is a much faster and less vulnerable transport ship that can get elite squads safely to their destination and contribute to air battles instead of needing protection.

Battle Barge
A modification to the standard transport that gives it room for a medium core, mounting points for light copper armour, and a number of small cannon mounts. When fully outfitted these transports will be much less vulnerable but also more expensive.

Draig is there any significant difference between the amount of experience we have from the Ironwood project now compared to if we finished it?

For the Ironwood project, not really, because it was made under the rules where it took a while to get prototypes. It's grandfathered in and you've got 90% of the research knowledge down. In future, when prototypes are generated instantly, this will likely change.

I'm not voting for the vanguard lac because it only effects one gun. I think we should make a centralized ship cooling design at some point that can simply be attached to any gun. Basically just a single, easily accessible source out water that is pumped and cycled around all guns on board. Doing them each one at a time sends terribly inefficient.

I believe the intention is to improve the cannon we currently use the most. Any truly new cannons will naturally have this coolinh system included.

Aether Pistol
Efficacy: 4
The redesign of the gauntlet into a pistol frame goes reasonably well, with only minor hiccups along the way. The pistol, designed around the lightgun frame, is a bit bulky, but still sits well in the hand and the weight gives it a steady aim. Unlike a gauntlet, it does take up the hand, but that's a relatively small price to pay for the decreased risk of severe burns and improved accuracy. One issue, however, is that soldiers have a much more difficult time estimating their weapon's heat, and are much more liable to overfire and melt the short barrel.

Aetheric Pistol: Cost: 1 Ore, 1 crystal, 1 Wood  to give one to every fireteam in a squad, 4 of each to give one to everyone. A small pistol of copper and wood, slung in a leather holster. More accurate and more physically encumbering than a gauntlet, with much less risk of accidentally burning your arm, but also an increased risk of accidentally melting the gun due to overheating.

Vanguard LAC
Efficacy: 2
'Cheaper and Lighter than the Quotient of Its parts' is likely a design document fib that will live on in infamy. It's still expensive, though naturally less so than the Vanguard, and the smaller pump and water reserve system have their own issues. Specifically, it means that the leaky nipples on the original Vanguard design now contribute significantly to water losses, and that cycling new water canisters in is now much more necessary. On average, she can usually manage to fire at full speed for half of each minute, giving her an average time between shots of about 18 seconds. Worse, the nipples have the unfortunate tendency to generate an obscuring cloud of steam around the gunner, making it difficult to aim, and similarly uncomfortable to firing a Vanguard.

Vanguard 'Mini' LAC (Small  Cannon)  3 Ore, 2 Crystal, Small | A single barrel variant of the Vanguard, designed to run in small mounts. Suffers greatly increased issues from the water leakage of the Vanguard design, and can only manage a sustained ROF of one shot per 18 seconds.

Spire Kasgyre's production stands at,
13(+10)/y Crystal, 34/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 17/85 banked
19/y Wood, 84/95 banked
10/y Silk, 13/50 banked

It is now the production, deployment, and tactics phase.
