I can't support splitting up our fleet. Either everything moves back, or everything holds. I'm in favor of everything moving back.

Also, "hold the line" is an odd way to talk about a tactic that is literally retreating and setting traps...

I have noticed a small discrepancy with the anguis's trim web loadout.

It is currently listed as having: 5 topaz trim webs, 1 trim web, 4 topaz trim crystals.
It should have: 6 topaz trim webs, 2 trim webs, 4 trim crystals.
The most recent trim web pairs added were listed as just a single trim web instead of 2.

The Anguis after refits (if it's refitted) should have: 10 topaz trim webs, 2 topaz trim crystals.
A fully equipped Viper's trim should always add up to 12, and should be all even numbers.

Three Captains

The Canary is very afraid.

The rest of fleet has long since disengaged back to Kasgyre, but it has remained hiding in the clouds, and being very, very, very happy with its continued life span. Wreth has moved in, with an upgraded skiffs moving in a scouting pattern, and it's only been through sheer luck that the Canary was not sighted.

The rest of the Wreth force is similarly bad news. Two of their larger vessels have moved in, along with another pair of upgraded skiffs in addition to their scout. Worse, another transport arrives to land more troops at the spire.

Inside the Spire
Things are not looking good. Casualties have been kept to a minimum, but the additional reinforcements have prevented any significant headway from being made. We trap and bomb, but they continue a slow and cautious advance that makes them impossible to bait into a full trap or overextension of their forces. We almost succeed in bombing one of their cannons during a raid at a blind corner, but again they repulse us.

Overall, Wreth drives us backwards, retaking ground until we're at the edge of where we can run.

They outnumber us close to 4:1 now, and there's a very real danger of a charging advance wiping the men out completely- even if we could inflict terrible casualties on them in the process. The officer on the ground notes that it may be possible to stand at this position for another year and hold ground, but no more than that. If they adjust tactics and use the weight of numbers against us... well, we may not even last to the end of next year.

Confirmed Kills: Approximately a squad of Wreth
Losses: 25% of Sniper Squad

Kasgyre has lost ground at the three captains

Spire Kasgyre

A new Natalie skiff has been constructed, and two more squads of Marines have been trained. One Skyskiff was scuttled to make room for the Natalie.

The Ophidian is upgraded, and a few minor book-keeping issues with its loadout are corrected.
The Anguis is upgraded to carry the Topaz Vanguard, and many minor changes to its trim system are made.
The Apollo is christened and ready to serve.

It is now the beginning of the year 369 AR.

Spire Kasgyre's production stands at,
13(+10)/y Crystal, 32/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 17/85 banked
19/y Wood, 90/95 banked
10/y Silk, 23/50 banked

It is now the design and project maintenance phase. You have 5 dice to spend.

Another minor nitpick about trim webs :) :
The trim web pair that was taken off the Anguis should have been given to the Ophidian instead of storage, which should be at 8 web/4 crystal now.

Yeah, I also forgot to redact your Topaz vanguard, which I imagine you'd complain less about. :P

You gotta hand it to our men. They may be out numbered 4:1 but they're keeping up in casualties as well.

Have two projects which will hopefully be resource light:

Quote from: Naval Boot Camp
As larger and more numerous ships clash, it has become evident that our standard doctrine of ships loosely working together as a collective is not enough. No longer will we our ships act like a herd of cats, vaguely adhering to a collective cause. Instead, every member of our fleet, from the Grand Admiral to the lowest deckhand, will be put through a boot camp ensuring a degree of basic competency, an understanding of all tasks required of them, and a loyal adherence to the Chain of Command. Competence awards recognition and promotion. Negligence attracts the heavy hand of military law.

Quote from: Advanced Marine School
The exceptional performance displayed by our forces at the Three Captains have proven just how effective skilled marines are in the face of Wrethi opposition. By condensing the skills and knowledge proven to be necessary by these engagements and including them in basic training our margins should prove too be more competent in all situations.

Tl;dr: better ship crews and better marine squads.

Another nitpick, about kettleguns this time. The Anguis should have only 5 normal kettleguns (4 front, 1 back), not 7.

Oh yeah, and the trim pair taken from the Ophidian shouldn't be in storage, it was given to our new transport XD! Why does the transport have a topaz trim pair listed?

Also the Natalies and new transport have some comm officers we never paid for. Thanks??

An actual tactical related question: Did Canary see any of the flaming spitball cannons on the Wreth corvettes, or was it too far away to tell?

Any engagement is going to be a full fleet engagement now, so wagon circle will likely be unnecessary. If we do use wagon circle, we could probably just throw a few skiffs to it to soak impacts and have the rest of the fleet to engage normally.

The vanguard should give us an edge in the air, and our skiffs are marginally superior to theirs now. (More so with the helmets.) But I'm by no means confident in an engagement. We might want to use a revision on water/sand barrels that can be used to put out fires on board, but Idk.

We have to engage this turn, so we should use our dice on anything to give us an edge in this battle.

Maybe try a variation of guide wires again?
Maybe a gunners seat that is attached and swivels with the gun?
Maybe we do optics/sights of some kind for our gunners. I really like that idea, but it might be more of a design.

Instead of/in addition to guide wires we could try to make harnesses that they can use to clip themselves to their battlestations. Can't move around during tight maneuvers, but they can use their hands to do work. Kinda opposite of the guidelines, where they can move around but can't use their hands. Maybe we could even do a guide wires/harnesses combined revision.
