I prefer instant prototyping over rerolling. Rerolling will slow the game down, as it takes 1 entire turn per reroll. Given that projects already need a long time to deploy, that isn't neat.

My reasoning was that with instant prototyping you can still waste dice on a project, just less of them. With re rolling, all your projects will eventually get some use. One reduces the problem, the other one fixes it.

Except projects can be ruined even when the dice are statistically better than average. So, rerolling doesn't really work

Damn it, ebbor is right. Re-rolling is too risky and costly.

Really, if it fails, it fails. Bound to get an abject failure every now and then, not every project pans out, after all.

I think projects should be allowed to fail. But knowing that they've failed before you've thrown a bunch of dice and resources at them would be nice.

I think one re-roll would be good to have available for projects that are otherwise desirable but held back by one bad roll.

I agree with NUKE. Investing "only" three dice into a project and immediately knowing whether or not it's worthwhile to start throwing absurd amounts of material at it will be enough.

Baby roll that I don't have right away, but only have the rules be revealed through hints in the progress reports? That would be a kind of middle ground.

I vote no on rerolling prototypes simply because that's what revisions are already for, fixing flaws in prototypes. If we can reroll prototypes there will be less design though about how to fix flaws with revisions and more gamey thought about probabilities and whether something is worth rerolling.

The problem is that many times flaws end up being unfixable by revisions.

Maybe that's a GM fault rather than a system one, but the point remains.

I like bottlenecking revisions, personally. Saves people constantly tuning up the one working project-
Same reason as this change- gotta encourage players to do the risky and interesting stuff.
