We just consider a deployment to be successful when all the troops land on the spire, rather than the ground below.

Besides, we just needed to start the journey from high enough and we were able to glide straight across the calm no problems. Didn't see any need to risk our own lives killing off Wrethi when we knew basic physics and the local wildlife would do it for us.
