I have used only Photobucket for some time and used it exclusively for images in Geshud Osod. All of the pictures I saw appear to be functional still.

Of course I haven't posted too much recently so I may not longer be able to post, but it hasn't broken any of my old linkages as far as I can tell.

I too have fallen victim to the Photobucket Phuckapalooza. It has given me the opportunity to try new avatars, something I haven't done in years. None shall recognize me.

I honestly did not remember that the original image was hosted there.

Hm. Interestingly, this does appear the case.

I would still want to ensure having a back-up copy, at least, if you didn't make one when taking the image, in case photobucket goes under.

The early pictures of Halltraded used Photobucket.  The rest of the story appears to be intact.  As an aside, this is also one of my favorites for the 'fish and trees are trying to murder us' theme.

Actually Halltraded used imageshack. What photobucket is doing to its users now is nothing compared to what imageshack did when it went from a free to a payed service. From what I understand all images have been deleted, and should be considered lost forever.
They actually replaced all the images with obnoxious adds for a time.

Regrettably, those images have since been blocked too, along with various other threads.
Once again, I would like to plug the following chrome extension which fixes embedded PB images, though it is likely a temporary solution.

Looks like PB finally caught up to me. My images are now no longer posting as intended.

As someone who used to use Photobucket, this bothers me greatly. :-\

People often ask the question, "what happens when a free online service with a huge user base decides to start charging?"  i.e. Facebook or Google.

The answer is...everyone moves to one of rhe many practically identical free competitors.  Moat ultra-popular web services hang their popularity on a delicate thread.
