Hallo there i have been loosely following this game and have noticed that some country's, while taken, are getting skipped.
Does that mean they are up for grabs or because the game has been going on for a while now, that people prefer that no new players are added?
Or should i PM Haspen?

Go PM Haspen :3 That's the best way to work this through, as he checks out all countries and otherwise.
However be aware that there are country pacts up there--which include player plans and otherwise that are unknown in public.

Currently the only openings are for Yugoslavia and Greece.

Only if the intervening territory is captured without a fight. Otherwise all forces stop to fight the garrison.

Thus leaving one army in a border territory is useful even vs an overwhelming invasion force.

Now, quick question - if I roll through 9 to hit Helsinki, do I gain the attack benefit for the HQ there?

You need to conquer 9 first :v

But yes, armies passing through 9 after that will get the bonus.
