I think it may be better if you NPC'd the others, as players versus players may not be a fun ending if people make mistakes and get capitalized on without characterization or...well that's my impression anyway. x.x

I'd be more than willing to eat smaller nations for the first couple of turns until we have enough players

Seconding the NPC'ing other nations thing. If we wait any longer, we'll be more likely to lose players than gain them.

Of course, the first part will be pre-game diplomacizing; this phase will last ~48 hours till Friday evening.

The 4 NPCized nations (Denmark&Iceland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Sweden) are still up for grabs by new players. Later on, people who get 'kicked out' can grab these if they wish to continue (and the npc nations are still around, that's it).
