There are limits to how far you can really 'park'. But you definitely could maneuver a hard burn now and end up a few hundred meters from the field without risking drifting away too quickly. Once you've done that, you'll be able to move through the field as though it was stationary.

((This is space, there is no halt, not really, but you can match orbits. Having played KSP is so useful sometimes.))

Keep that targeting data coming, specifically target the largest/closest groups.

Tina deploys two more drones, and sends them into the asteroid field. Naming them Front 1 and Front 2.
"I'll send in drones to draw the enemy."
Tina has the Front drones harass the Rushers, getting closer than the Flank drones.
So they'll move out of cover, and into view for the Flank drones, or the ship weapons.

Stella performed a standard circularization burn, bringing the ship into relative alignment with the asteroid field.

Front 1 and Front 2 were launched too early, flying at high speed towards the asteroid field, well out of position. [Drones 28] Flank 1 and Flank 2 were nearing a firing solution.

Sertan was still able to make good use of the primary laser banks, beams streaking across asteroids as he planned a number of unconnected firing control routines, quickly tapping his controls, a chorus of confirmation beeps filling the cockpit as another hundred and fifty Rushers went down. [Lasers 131] 1850 to go.

They went down so quickly that Christian couldn't keep up, feeding sensor data in on groups as they were being terminated. [Sensors 28]

The Castle Effect moved out of sight behind one of the asteroids, becoming difficult to scan after some anomalous readings.

Flank 1 and Flank 2 took positions, along with Front 1 and Front 2, providing a total of 10 lasers to the tactical consoles. [Drones 91]

Rushers lept out into space, trying to take Front 1 and Front 2. Tina easily maneuvers them out of the way, keeping track of their positioning and that of the enemy forces. [Rushers 52]

Sertan fed in targeting data, the drones each providing auxiliary support. Another 30 of the Rushers were cut down. 1820 to go.
 [Lasers 64]

Stella fired a pair of the lasers, sweeping through a column that was leaping into a new position. She cut down 70 more. 1750 to go. [Lasers 96]

Christian fed sensor data back in, lighting up groups of targets out of view. Orange outlines filled the HUD, showing targets hidden behind rocks. [Sensors 115, +10 on targeting rolls against the rushers next turn.]

The sensors made a bleeping sound. There was some form of anomalous reading building inside one of the asteroids.

Scan, either for targeting data or to pinpoint the anomaly if my team mates would prefer that
