"I am, I suppose."

Bouddica nods before slamming her hand against her breast, which may have hurt if either limb or torso was armored.
"I am Boudicca, daughter of Caít. I come from the north."

"Well, the last thing I remember before I wound up here, on my quest to find the Kingdom of Drangleic, I'd found my way to a lake that reflected a great castle where only there were ruins. At the center of these ruins was a tree blanketed by thousands of fireflies. It was the night of the blood moon, the night I could gain access to Drangleic, and as the moon reached its peak the fireflies scattered from the tree like a shower of embers. Torches at the gates of the ruin flared to life, and a massive hole that lead down into darkness formed in the waters of the lake. The road to Drangleic. I plunged down into the hole, but as I fell I collided with the swirling water at its edge, and well... That's the last I remember before being at the steps of this church.

I told you you wouldn't believe me."

[SOLDIER First]

"It makes as much sense as any explanation I could have thought up, so... No, I do believe you. But what's this Drangleic you speak of?"

[~Neri]

"I will take a copy."

Larae goes and does just that. They also skim through it for contents of interest. They'll be doing a full read later of course offscreen, but immediately notable tidbits are always nice. And makes it so the GM doesn't need to write a novel.

Spoiler: A brief summation of the Tale (click to show/hide)

The Tale of the Sacred Tree is divided into three parts:

I - The Birth of Ashatna, the World Mother

II - Ashatna Reveals Herself to Humanity

III - Ashatna Creates the Sacred Tree, Genievria

The three parts describe, respectively, how the Earth Mother came into being and explores the world; how she then revealed herself to humans and their reaction; and how she created the titular Sacred Tree in order to keep humans safe from the dangers of the world. (Mostly, it seems, other humans.)

As expected, Larae doesn't see much use in this fanciful story.

It's a book. Even if it isn't immediately useful, books are valuable in this day and age. The whole 'no printing press' thing. Fictional works tend to sell well. And who knows, religious texts do often have hints of truth within them. Larae pockets the book. Any good cloak has many pockets of many sizes.

[SOLDIER First]

Lady Margot gives Larae a respectful nod.

"Well, I don't know much about Drangleic myself. All I've heard is that it's some ancient kingdom within which rests someone or something which may lift the curse of undeath."

[Chevaleresse]

Onryo searches for a torch. Failing that, they continue moving toward the steps, weapon ready to draw.

[SOLDIER First]

No sources of light puncture the gloom. Instead, merely feet in front of them, a shambling figure appears. Clad in travelers' garb, it seems to be a poor soul who finally went Hollow.

And, like all the rest of its kind, it harbors a hunger for Humanity - as it lunges at Onryo with a closed fist.

[Chevaleresse]

Onryo gives it a savage kick, and if that connects, goes for a quick stab in order to end the thing's "life" as soon as possible.

[SOLDIER First]

The Hollow's swing goes wide, missing Onryo by a large margin. While it's off-center, they aim a kick at its midsection, causing it to stumble into the wall of the passageway. Then, with practiced ease, Onryo drives their blade through its gut. The Hollow moans pitifully and collapses to the ground, where it lies still.

Onryo watches as a strange, silvery mist rise from the Hollow and float into them.

Spoiler: Pittance of Souls (click to show/hide)

Souls are the essence of the self. Without a soul, a human is nothing... but not even souls will save an Undead from growing Hollow.

You've obtained a pittance of souls. Use them well... if there's anything you could use such a minuscule amount for, that is.
