"Fresh air! Come, let us leave this forsaken dungeon and see where we are." Melodia speeds up her pace, hurridly climbing the stairwell to find the exit.

Ludek keeps a fair bit away from the door, thinking to capitalize on the strangers good nature by doing a quick backstab while they gesture waiting to slip by while the two fight. To his surprise, the armoured man reacts amicably... Or, at least, conservatively. Maintaining one eye on the noble looking stranger and another on the two in the room, Ludek slips through the door, never idling more than a few feet from the doorway.

"A sentinel? Or a jailer? I'll be frank, stranger, I haven't an idea how you've come between me and my freedom, nor how my... companions came to be at my side. Have you a lot in this trickery, or are you merely another nascent soul?" Ludek tries not to appear threatening, though that is easily enough accomplished. He keeps a grip on his catalyst, though his intentions are, again, purely defensive.

"Neither. Just a traveler."

The stranger chuckles, not unkindly.

"And very, very old... Hm? What trickery do you speak of?"

Evangeline, Sola, Melodia

The staircase leads upwards for a short time, culminating in a loud crash of metal as Melodia collides with someone and the two fall, most embarrassingly, onto their backsides. The person springs to their feet - a man, with light brown hair and eyes. He wears a deteriorating mail vest with a worn symbol upon the front, and matching leather armor on his extremities. The man extends his hand to Melodia.

"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't see you there. I'd heard lots of clanging from the dungeons, so I guessed someone new had arrived, but I never expected three at once. Let me help you up."

"Not to disappoint you, but I can stand on my own." Melodia stands with help of her spear, half scowling at the man, "Where is this? Why are we here?"

He retracts his hand without pause.

"No problem, then. This is what I like to call the Wooded Fortress, friend." He gestures behind himself to the massive courtyard you're now standing inside. Easily fifty yards across on both sides, it's surrounded by crumbling brick walls. Strangely, they look very pell-mell, like they'd collapsed and been rebuilt more than once. Sunlight filters in through openings in treetops high above. The trees themselves are titanic, with steely-gray bark, and the forest stretches on for a long distance from what you can see.

"As for why you're here, well... search me. I get a lot of people showing up on the grounds or in the dungeons, but not a single clue as to why. The only thing I do know is that they're all Undead, for some reason. You're just the newest batch."

He extends his hand again, this time for a shake. "I'm Lyndon, of Calidon, friends. A pleasure."

"Silver knight Melodia Griffith, from the land of Fairytales, Grimmia." She doesn't shake his hand.

A mellow, contemplative hum sneaks from Ludek's mask as he appraises the situation. He adopts a more relaxed composure, but not so much as to leave himself open to an attack. These are still strangers to him, after all.

"Hm, hm! A traveler now? But aren't we all, since the only homes left are for the dead and damned... But I'm splitting hairs. If you're a traveler, and a friend, then speak your intentions. I suffer from some perplexity, I'm sorry to say... But I only speak for myself." He nods to his companions. "In this lies the problem. I am a pathfinder, yet I am lost. And so, some malefic thing must have an influence on me, you, or us all. Can you tell me, where is this place?" There is little need for duplicity, Ludek is surely snared either way...

"I see. Onryo and Kent." Ywis's mouth moves as if silently trying out their names multiple times before breaking back into a yellow-toothed grin, "You are as lost as I am. Then you will not refuse my company? Until we find known territory?"
"If you don't get in my way." Onryo moves toward the footsteps, prepared to strike if necessary.

"Of course. We only have one another in this land, after all, friend."

Evangeline, Sola, Melodia

"Then... are you three not Undead?"

Boudicca, Ludek, Meredith

"I see. Well, this is the Border Wall. It separated the land you came from and the one on the other side... but I can't remember their names..."  The stranger cocks his head to the side again in thought, but only for a moment.

"Whatever. Not important. My intent, pathfinder, is to cross the border."

Kent, Onryo, Ywis

The footsteps are echoing around too loudly to tell exactly where they're coming from, but they seem louder on the right side, so you enter that way.

The halls are very dark the further you travel from the room with the dais, as all the light sources are unlit. The footsteps grow louder...

Boudicca nods. She stands up and stretches with her axe.
"Then we shouldn't waste time right?"
