You could yes, however I've put a hold on any more players joining. I think twelve will be plenty I'm afraid.

Pretty sure Maver E is a player starting position and should be black on the economic map accordingly.

Yeah that's The Brimstone Republic's capital.

PaPaj I would say bleed out, if a gas pipe is breached it is said to either be venting or bleeding.

Leader Nirur sits at a desk in his manor, counting and re-arranging marked blocks of wood, deep in thought. A fire merrily burns in a semi-covered firepit in the center of the room. An attendant enters, refilling the firewood supply and adding more to the fire.

"It doessn't work! Nothing doess .. You, bring me the patrol documentss. I'm sstepping them down. We musst move outwards. Bringing down that inept count Limssey and truly uniting Pollock will take more weaponss than we have. We musst ssecure our own iron ssource."

Spoiler: Pollock Turn 1 Orders (click to show/hide)

Question:
Are there any limits to hiring mercs (other than money), or could someone take a lightly defended county across the sea with a small force and hire a surprise-army before the defending player can react?

Surprise mercenary armies are a completely valid tactic.

Damn. I was hoping for confirmation from Tiruin about trade before I made my turn. But at this point I'm not sure Tiruin even exists. Maybe she's all just a fantasy we collectively dreamed of.

Bartiro sat on the stump, some rough piece of wood hauled under the shade of the lone tree left to grow in the training yard. He was taking his lunch, as he often did these days, as he watched a group of the lesser races train with an assortment of crude weapons. Crude, but the best the republic could offer at this time. It was almost sad, watching these animals struggle to handle the roughly made spears as Fredric, the sergeant of his personal guard, tried his best to impart some level of skill unto them. A helpless task that the human seemed to take to without complaint. Indeed! The only complaint the man seemed to have about this arrangement was Bartiro watching! He seemed to think his presence might in some way disturb the lower races. Bartiro smiled at the beasts in training as he brought his fork up to his lips, his sharp teeth delicately taking the piece of raw bloody meat off it, he savored the taste as he chewed. Catching the eye of a few of the animals in training, and chuckling as one fumbled with his spear, almost dropping it as he saw Bartiro watching him.

Still, as crude and helpless with weapons as they were, the singular quality they had that had induced Bartiro to start this scandalous program of arming the lower castes was how disposable they were. For far too long the Brimstone Republic had relied on highly trained warriors from the higher castes for their military. A policy that had left it's military far to small to project power. Well, no matter the objections of his peers, the republic needed a larger military, and for now, that meant arming the lesser races. To hell with their fears of rebellion! And damn to Fredrics worries as well! Bartiro knew his presence here could only be for the betterment of his lessers, it did them good to remind them of their place. Proof of that was evident in how much harder they worked every time he sliced off another chunk of flesh from the one chained to his table, the screams of their failed companion seemed to galvanize them to greater efforts in their training far more then Fredric could with only his words and beatings.
