Of course it is. Let me put it this way: If you are carrying something heavy, doesn't it slow you down? Thus if you drop it, you go faster. This is because heavy things move slower than you, and thus slow you down. Its the same concept with space ships. Trust me, I'm scientastic.

But...the medium around whatever that thing is, also matters.

The carrying something heavy = slow down, is pretty much based on gravity and other factors around you. Which is different in our space, because we're pretty much a 4-ish km ship with tons upon tons of cargo that requires some heavy thrust from them heavy engines to even work.

But "heavy" objects have more mass, thus take more energy to move. Thus, for the same energy expenditure, the ship with less heavy stuff on it will accelerate faster thus go faster. Thus me, Ima thus.

Might be too far away to do anything. It looks like a more or less isolated incident, its not something we should sink their ship over (unless we feel like it).
