How exactly did this megabeast survive worldgen?
« on: June 10, 2017, 09:41:55 am »

So, around a year ago I posted a thread remarking how rarely MBs died during worldgen. After several replies by other people, I wrote it off as just my own bad luck. However, after seeing this in "Legends" mode, I'm almost certain that there's something wrong going on in worldgen combat. Take a look:

I mean, I get the deadly spittle part, but after 500 years of constant battles it seems that NO ONE was able to land a single hit on this thing. What gives?

Water tends to not care what's put into it. Depending on the size of the thing, certain/most weapons wouldn't be able to sever any body parts.

Worldgen combat is extremely simplified and tends not to take into account things like materials or interactions. As such, titans that could be taken out by a baby's punch during gameplay will be able to defeat far more formidable creatures during worldgen. On the other hand, worldgen combat also seems to have a significant random component, so you get things like legendary demons from the underworld being taken out by random donkeys.

Also, we don't know for sure if water titans and such are meant to be so puny. It's not like there's precedent in any fantasy literature for water/fire/vomit elementals to be prone to death by kitten head-bump. Right now it's just a natural result of the combat/physical body parts system. But come magic and giants of primordial slime and we're likely to see some kind of buff. An extra layer of "magicness" that manages to keep elementals falling apart instantly or something.

I had a legendary human (very large) vampire adventurer die to a goblin fisherman with novice skills; during worldgen in the defense of some mountainhome from a dwarven civ that was being overwhelmed by a goblin civ, Nahere is on point how worldgen combat is

In a one-on-one fight, or during a battle? I find the most outrageous results are often during a battle. The slayer being presumably the last guy (or donkey) to get a kick in as the elite warrior lies dying of wounds/exhaustion.
