Pathfinder is getting another game set in its universe; this time in one of the darkest corners of the world. In a nation overtaken by a yawning maw that opens to the Abyss itself, the players will find themselves fighting back the demonic hordes for the future of the world.

Featuring new player options, including the fan-favorite Oracle and Witch, and an overhauled version of the tabletop's Mythic progression system.

It's also been announced that Chris Avellone is returning to support the narrative team.




Played Pathfinder, or more specifically its Kingmaker Adventure Path? It's become a recently released isometric game, with Paizo's Blessing. It's also a Kickstarter project by Owlcat Games, with Narrative Lead Chris Avellone.

This Real-Time Strategy Game sends the player's party into the Stolen Lands of the River Kingdoms; a lawless land ripe for conquering. It features both dungeon-crawling and kingdom building elements.

The game features 14 Classes, with 3 Archetypes each, 6 Prestige Classes, and 8 Races to choose from.

I would just love it if they can do a similar feel as Neverwinter Nights (1&2, not the mmo).

The Pathfinder reddit is... well, super negative on this, mostly because everyone is whining their heads off about it not being a turn-based, grid-based 100% faithful reproduction of Pathfinder and it's what, 40+ books of classes, archetypes, feats, spells, races and traits that the game has grown into. The salty neckbeards there are just as negative about classics like Baldur's Gate because they weren't turn-based grid games, so take that with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

I'm cautiously optimistic, because I think Kingmaker and it's blend of adventure and kingdom building mechanic has a lot of potential to be done well in a computer game. That said, implementation and weaving a compelling storyline is key.

Pathfinder has become a prisoner of its bloated mechanics. Basically, the fans require it to follow certain mechanical conventions which place limits on the stories. So if the CRPG can break free of those limits, it might actually portray the story in a more interesting manner than it would if chained.

Can't say I've seen Kingmaker in the tabletop threads.

If it was my meatgrinding misadventures, then those would be the Giantslayer and the Hell's Vengeance adventures.

I don't think I've heard of Kingmaker being a meatgrinder. Mostly about how the Kingdom rules are easily abused and the story itself makes no sense; even if the players are incredibly inquisitive.

The Kingmaker campaign isn't bad persay... but it outright requires a good DM to run it.

And as I said I never EVER give credit to a pen and paper RPG or Adventure Path because someone else made it fun... because a DM or great players could make just about anything a blast!

It has some interesting ideas. Though it feels REALLY weird being a King of an illustrious kingdom and yet... you do most of the heavy lifting... but I guess you have to accommodate for the system.

Link required, and I can probably tell you which adventure path it is. From what I've heard, Kingmaker is anything BUT a meatgrinder because you are generally fully rested for every encounter, leading to casters being able to nuke from orbit with impunity.

Kickstarter's met its goal. Days ago, actually, but I forgot about this thread.

New stretch goal of 600k, to add in the Magus.

If the Kingmaker is the campaign I played in for a bit then there's absolutely nothing illustrious about the kingdom.

Pathfinder was a mistake.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one, I enjoy the game quite a bit, and it fixed a number of things wrong in 3.5 without going as far as 4e and 5e did in a different direction.

As far as I'm concerned, Pathfinder is the best choice to make a good RPG.
(and 4e would be the best choice to make a tactical game)
