You find a particularly stout mangrove tree and clamber up to the top of it.  There are ample twigs you can break off and with a few hours of work you put together what is essentially a very large bird's nest.  It's not the most magnificent lair, but you can sleep in it well enough.  Now you just need your shiny egg shells to leave in it.

Tracking back to find your shiny eggshell fragments, you find that your hatching spot has been disturbed.  Some sort of bipedal scaled creature with little horns and a lizard-like snout is industriously gathering up your precious shell fragments and stuffing them into a leather bag.  The creature (kobold, your mind supplies) wears a simple loincloth and has a strung shortbow hung over its shoulder, wearing a leather quiver with stone arrows on its other shoulder and a long flint knife at its hip on a belt.  It isn't as big as the boar (perhaps a quarter its size), but your ancestral memories are filling in the functions of its weapons for you, and those are quite dangerous indeed.

The kobold hasn't noticed you yet, but it is stealing your hard-won (you were literally born with it) treasure.

A) Let it be.  You can get more.
B) Kill it!  Kill it now!
C) Track it for a while, see where it goes.
D) (Suggest an option.)

Oh yeah, I don't think revealing ourselves to it is a good idea. Kobolds only work for mature dragons, not hatchlings.

Oh yeah, I don't think revealing ourselves to it is a good idea. Kobolds only work for mature dragons, not hatchlings.

Who knows how the it'll work! If they worship dragons, even young ones should be respected, right? Maybe we're the prodigy of this kobolds recently deceased god.

You hang back in the bushes and watch the kobold gather up the last of your precious eggshell fragments, slipping them into his bag and giving the swamp a furtive glance before hurrying away.  He stalks off into the muddy ground and you track after him, keeping back but keeping the kobold in sight.  After about ten minutes he seems to notice something and his pace picks up - you move after him and watch as he clambers up a tree.  It is a simple matter to climb after him, taking a position on a higher branch.  The kobold unhooks his bow from his shoulder and rests an arrow against the bowshaft, studying the swamp carefully.

There, up ahead, you notice what he must have been tracking.  Some sort of large black lizard, about the same size as the boar, slowly padding its way through the swamp and occasionally licking small amphibians up with a long purple tongue.  It has a black and purple crest flattened back against its head and does not seem to have noticed either you or the kobold.

The kobold raises its bow and takes aim.

A)  Just watch this unfold.
B)  Now!  Leap down and kill this bastard whilst he's distracted with the shot.
C)  Now!  Grab your shell fragments out of his bag whilst he's distracted with the shot.
D)  Wait.  Let him take the shot and then leap on him whilst he's busy with his likely kill.
E)  Wait.  Let him take the shot and then grab your shell fragments whilst he's busy with his likely kill.

Snake sounds like sneak. Snakes are reptiles. Dragons are reptiles. Therefore, dragon must be sneaky.
