Kobold: 2
You watch from the branches as the kobold draws, lines up his shot, then releases the arrow. It sails through the air and at the last possible moment the lizard moves its head - the arrow sinks into the dirt beside it. The lizard looks up, marking the kobold instantly. Its crest flares up around its head and quivers, producing a rattling sound. Before the kobold can ready another arrow the lizard's jaws open and it spits a stream of black ichor straight at the kobold.
Kobold: 1 You: 8!
The ichor covers the kobold, who immediately begins letting out a high-pitched squeal. Looking at the way the kobold's scales start turning black and sloughing off, this seems to be some sort of venom rather than acid. You nimbly duck out of the way of the first stream and manage to bob down and pull the bag off the collapsing soon-to-be-corpse. Gripped in your teeth, you spirit the bag and its contents away to your lair, where you empty it out to take a look.

As well as your beautiful egg shell shards (
Value: 100 silver pieces, your ancestral instincts provide) you find several grimy, battered circles of a brilliant yellow metal that speaks to your soul, each crudely stamped in the likeness of some crowned humanoid figure. (Seven gold pieces.
Value: 140 silver pieces.) Finally there is a collection of beautiful feathers in all sorts of bright colours (
Value: 10 silver pieces), which you use to pad out the edges of your nest for decoration. You pile the eggshell shards and the coins together and nestle down in them to get some well-earned rest.
You slowly rise out of murky dreams of flying over some sort of vast icy terrain, larger than any of the tall trees that dotted the frozen hillsides. You stretch out your limbs and yawn, feeling the feathers and woven branches at the edge of your nest. You feel your eyebrow ridges crease. Your nest has gotten smaller. No, wait...
You have grown, now the size of a
housecat. There have been
other changes, and you feel fragments of your ancestral memories more solidly anchored in the back of your mind, lending their
skill to you.
You glance around at your somewhat stuffed lair, feeling an instinctive evaluation of your hoard's current worth. You get the sense that whilst individuals might argue and bicker about the price of what you have, you have an unerring sense of its
true value.
