[Zanzetkuken The Great]

This is the thread for the Engineers of the Engineers and Generals (the Georgian Empire) game.

Here is a quick reference list for what the phases for the engineers will be:
Revision: Repair problems in equipment that were only found under large scale and long term use over the previous turn, or modify some old equipment to a degree.
Design: Create a new piece of equipment to satisfy the specifications the generals sent to the engineers.
Meeting: In the main thread, the engineers meet with the generals to counter their critiques and limit their modifications.
Update: Modify the design according to the surviving Meeting phase requests of the generals to finalize the design.

Do not look into the Generals thread.  While you are on the same faction, I want to keep information limited so the meeting phase can be more fun, and I don't want metagaming around you knowing exactly what doctrine they are wanting to implement and designing based around that rather than trying to predict what doctrine they are going for based upon the specifications they give you.

Infantry Equipment
Imperial Musket - A precussion cap smoothbore musket with a length of 1.9 arshin and a 1.3 arshin barrel.  It fires a 7 line ball at an average of 175 rounds at an average rate of 3 rounds per minute. (1 Ore)
Imperial Bayonet - A 1 chetvert bayonet that is able to be attached to the end of the barrel of an Imperial Musket. (1 Ore)
Imperial Pistol - A single-shot pistol used by officers and cavalry that fires a 4 line ball. (1 Ore)
Gladius - An officer and cavalryman’s sword that has heritage in the ancient weapon used by Roman Legions. (1 Ore)
Uniforms - Wool uniforms stylized in the red and gold in expression of the nation’s flag.
 
Artillery
Imperial Cannon - A cast iron cannon with a carriage able to be pulled by horses that fires a 11 funt ball. (2 Ore)
 
Navy
Imperial Sloop - A single masted wooden ship armed with six Imperial Cannons, four on each side of the ship.  (2 Wood, 2 Ore)(Expensive)
Imperial Frigate - A three masted wooden ship armed with twenty Imperial Cannons, ten on each side of the ship.  (4 Wood, 3 Ore)(Very Expensive)
 
Infrastructure
Horses - Animals that have been used for centuries for cavalry, messengers, pulling carts, and other tasks.
Carts - Wooden carts pulled by horses to carry supplies between cities and to the front lines. (1 Wood)
Work Crews - Teams of civilian laborers that are hired in order to build new equipment, ships, structures, and infrastructure.  Better working equipment increases their efficiency.
 
Structures
Old Castles - A number of large, old castles that had been built up in the middle ages for defense that are now used as military bases.  (6 Stone)(Very Expensive)

Doctrine
Infantry Battle Lines - Infantry are march to the battlefields in columns that then deploy into two parallel lines facing the enemy before engaging the enemy with either fire or bayonet.
Flanking Cavalry - Horseback mounted forces attempt to strike at enemy forces from the flanks and rear rather than attempt a frontal charge.
Concentration Targeting Artillery - Artillery forces focus fire upon the largest concentrations of enemy forces.
Harassing Navy - Ships focus on short, rapid attacks before retreating in order inflict the most damage with the least losses.

Just to make sure it is known, you do not have to wait for the generals to send you their specifications for you to use the revision phase.  It is only the design/update phases that you are constrained by those.

Begin experimenting with patterns of grooves and dimples on the bullets to see which one flies the straightest.

As I join the ranks of these noble engineer type people, I must suggest that we use our Revision Phase to invent some Canister shot my good chaps.

 Personally, I would prefer to convert our muskets into breachloaders, potentially breachloading muskets all in one go.

Imperial Breach-Loading Rifle

The Imperial breach-loading rifle is a cap-and-ball design wherein the breach is designed to be able to pivot upwards when the "wedge" is lifted from the front, allowing one of our soldiers to reload a far shorter length of barrel, but is otherwise identical to the standard Imperial Musket. However, thanks to the bypassing of the barrel, the gun is fitted with a rifled sleve posessing seven sets of lands and valleys, each going to a depth of four points(a total diameter, valley to rise, of five lines, four points); and the breach is similarly sized for a bullet measuring five-and-a-half lines.

Inspiration comes from the Lindner carbine, of American civil war fame, which then went on to be heavily used(if under documented) in Europe converting muskets over to rifles.

Current list of proposed revisions:

Sounds good. Do we want to add minié balls? On the other hand, that might push it up in complexity, so how about the following:

Spoiler: Imperial Rifled Musket (click to show/hide)

This is a modification and update on the venerable Imperial Musket. It features a rifled barrel, which can be drilled into already-existing muskets. To avoid blackpowder fouling, a special bullet is used, which features a conical hollow at the end and grease-filled grooves around it. On being shot, the bullet expands, gripping the rifling and cleaning it from blackpowder residue at the same time.
The result is a cheap rifle which can be fired over and over again with a far larger range than a musket.

 Minie balls arent needed in breachloading rifles like this, note stated sizing of the projectile being actually a whole point larger than that of the bore+rifling.
