After recent negotiations, Varxsea starts to establish trade with Aqura mall, trading gemstones & manufactured goods for food.

Varxsea also sends out units to investigate the recent surge of the ash wastes, concerned that the wastes might well be growing on it's own.

The Night Sky over Sills is tinged red, smoke somehow still visible on the background rolls up in thick black tendrils upwards as the riots which lasted for weeks now finally burnt themselves out. It was a perfect backdrop under which the rather flamboyant captain of the stolen Holk sailed out of the Harbor of Sills City.

No one knows what exactly happened, some say it had to do with the Gods being angered, others that the Gods simply had abandoned them. Some said it had to do with the vanishing of the Grand Duke. Only this Captain standing on top of the main sail, one arm embracing the mast like a street lantern from which a drunk was hanging of, knew the entire truth. He and the hold full of gold he had taken from the Royal Repository in a daring theft.

This theft had had unforseen consequences. For it was not only a simple repository, not a few tons of gold. No. He had taken the entirety of the Sills treasury. Something that could not be covered up, especially considering that the massive building had blown up in a very telling explosion. The resulting riots had lasted for weeks and societal order in the Atoll had completely broken down. Not a concern of the Captain though. This was actually beneficial for him. But now he had other plans...

"Hard starboard, hoist the main, the mizzen and the fore. And the good old black of course!" he shouted in a sonorous voice with a slight drunken slur to it. He grinned to himself, before taking a heavy sip from his half-empty rum bottle.

Shouts of "Aye Aye Capt'n" echoed up from the deck as the men went to work.

Sills has fallen into Anarchy!
An as of yet unknown pirate captain made off with the entire treasury of the country!

Meanwhile in Jautonland...

> An expedition occurs! The King accompanies the venture alongside many of the landed nobility and volunteer soldiery, for the pursuit of knowledge, and leaves the task of overseeing to a respected noblewoman in line with the throne.

> The Institute for Magical Research has announced to change its scope and focus, instead becoming a University of learning and studies of the general world. (Details PM'd)

> Sea Raiders Alert! To the sudden sacking of its trade neighbor, Jautonland is decidedly OPEN FOR TRADING with anyone interested!
-- It also sends most of its capable naval vessels to check on Sills Atoll (which should not be named Sills, alone), to pursue or aid the locals. A priority inspection of Sills Atoll' currency is also of primary concern. (ie Tracking the coinage and where it is to be spent.)

The merchanti of Graņif have reportedly toasted to the liquidation of a competing trading power. To be a 'Sillian' soon becomes a byword for incompetence for many years to come.

OOC:
I'm sorry to interrupt this, but I don't know where the sign-up page for this is, and I'm also not sure if this is dead or not, if someone gave me a link I would happily move this post over there, again really sorry for interrupting.

It's still alive, it just moves as fast as a glacier. More to the point, there's an ooc thread here -> http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=164170.0

Just bear in mind that the game is full at the moment.

News from the Guerrand Varxsea border

Reports come in that Guerrand has begun a General Mobilization of its military, the process will take some more months to be completed but already the feared Guerrand Mercenaries are massing near the Varxsea border.

Similiar Reports are being heard that troops from Guerrand march towards Granifi Territories.

In Answer to Guerrandese Mobilization, Varxsea calls an Emergency Mobilization of its own Levies.

Within two months, in the depths of Winter both nations would have mobilizied their entire hosts.

With Mobilization of both Nations in full swing, Varxsea sends out an Olive Branch by offering Ceasefire negotiations.

After a while of back and forth the negotiations fail however and shortly thereafter Varxsea publishes the logs from said negotiations:

As a neutral power, Enorian Republic would like to mediate between the parties for mutual armistice and demobilization - neither side has to feel threatened with Enoria acting as a peace-keeper of the last resort.

Year 3

Expedition to the Fallen Kingdoms

A Large Scale Expedition into the Fallen Kingdoms has been made by Guerrand. More than seven thousand people are tied to the venture, including soldiers, laborers, learned men and hedge wizards from across the fiery sea.

An initial Outpost at the Border of the blighted lands of the once proud Kingdom has been chosen as the base of operations for the vast expedition. A veritable city is raised up in the middle of the cold and foreboding pine forests which haven't seen a human being in centuries.

Palisades are erected, watchtowers build and soon enough long barracks cros most of the interior of the outpost, while laborers work to clear a past through the forest due south. All that remains to decide upon is setting the initial focus.

Rinklefinch Botanical Expedition

An expedition similiar in scale is also ongoing in the South, the Rinklefinch Botanical Expedition is planning to delve deep into the jungles and swamps of the Southern Wilds. Dwarfing in scale even the Guerrand expedition, the Rinklefinch Expedition boasts more than ten thousand participants, from workers over learned men, prospectors, miners and adventurers to the military part of the expedition which contains in itself a good two and a half thousand men under arms as well as King Rinklefinch personally together with more than five hundred nobles of the High Kingdom.

In similiar fashion a veritable city is raised at the borders to the deep jungles. Unlike the Guerrand expedition, clearing paths for supply trains is infinitely easier thanks to the savannahs covering much of the supply tracks.

In similiar fashion an initial focus should be decided upon for the expedition.

Drole-de-Guerre

The Standoff on the Varxsea-Guerrand border continues as both nations refuses to make the first step. Similiarly Granif has enacted Partial Mobilization of its troops, which in similiar fashion prepare their defenses. The Cold War continues...for now.

Beer, Gems and Crocodile Leather from Aqura Mall

Aqura Mall is bustling. Even more so than usual. Varxseans, Granifi and even Enorian Traders are travelling to the City State to aquire its luxury Goods. Every day hectolitres of Beer, kilos of gems and cages upon cages of crocodiles leave the Country, which grows ever richer of its new monopolies.

The Assassins Arch

Upon the ruins of the former Kingdom of Assassins and in the Guerrand Capital itself, huge monuments in remembrance to the Assassins War have been erected

Pacification of Sills

Today Jautonlund Levies protected by the Jautonlund fleet have landed in Sills City, occupying it. Locals have stayed largely ambivalent to the occupation forces.

A New Year has begun.

Finally Having word from the navy, Jautonlund noticed that the whole of Sills Atoll (not to be treated as Sills, as so many foreigners have now deigned to call it as), was moreso a hotpot of disarray that a full force must be deployed to do anything realistic in the long run for the whole area.

That being done, the local noblewoman advised the King to go on an expedition to the wilderness--in which word of mouth was opportunistically a bad idea for announcement, logistically. In other details, Jautonlund is proud to announce the opening of its Institute refocused into higher education, rather than the focus on 'mages' and other noteworthy sorts that are abhorred by its neighbors.

Jautonlund is still open for trades ((Really, the previous player told me I'm now in full control :'())

After a week of no response whatsoever. . .

Jautonlund sends Trade requests to:
> The Enorian Republic
> Aqura Mali
> Drezzilia
> Var Caedwys (either via land routes, or the long sea routes that should be protected :v)
> Varxsea
> and Guerrand over proxy
> And probably anyone else they've missed out on.

Fair Winds, Fair Sea, Fair Mood on the Golden Circuit. That is what the Aquran Traders had come to call the route passing from Aqura Mall, stopping at the Joint Administrated Zone with Varxsea, Granif and finally the Enorian Republic before returning home. Recently the traders had grown rich and fat off the trade. and so it was to little suprise that the Sultana was empty of goods and heavy of coin on her homeward bound round. The sailor were of high morale and even Captain Ibek was less grumpy than usual. Everything was well...

"SAILS ASTERN, IT'S A SILLIAN BARQUE!"

"What colours does she fly?"

"NONE SIR!"

"Gods be damned..."

Ibek cursed himself a fool for jinxing this good run before returning to his orders

Ironyowl is now in charge of the
Sultana.
3 cannons apiece to a total of 6
a crew of 30 Men
4 Swivel Guns
top speed (empty, full sails, with the wind): 15 knots
current speed (west of the wind, half sails, fully loaded): 4 knots

The other ship is currently still at the horizon coming from astern and port (behind and to the left)

((since no one was posting i thought i will start to introduce a new threat, and while sea battles are usually not this detailed, i thought in this special case: why not))

Fully open the sails and test their speed. Try to get a good estimate if possible, what comes next may depend on how much it would matter.

"FULL SAILS, GET THE OLD LADY RUNNING!"

The Crew quickly complied and soon all sails were hoisted, sailing westerly from the wind direction however still slowed you down...

"5 Knots! 6 Knots! 8 Knots! We reached full speed captain, unless we change directions we won't get faster"

The Ship coming from south-south east was nonetheless gradually coming closer, sailing with the wind as it was, by now one could spot it with the bare eye.

The
Sultanas first mate was a bald headed man with an enormous manchu mustache, granting him the nickname "Sensei". The man was an old hand and thus it was no wonder that he also filled in as Quartermaster. Right now he was staring through the spyglass at the ship closing in.

"Captain, it's indeed a Sillian Barque, she's achieving at least 13 knots. Her gunports are still closed."
