Forts are great if there's a threat of an army actually catching you out if you go around. Fortunately for us, we just turned most of that into fertilizer. If we besiege, we're probably going to waste a ton of time. Going around is also time-consuming but likely less so in the long run.

And launching an assault is just suicidal.

I'd like to agree but every time (over several wars now) I think the enemy is down, they come back with a lot more than I expect. I don't know how Haspen comes up with the numbers, but we can't assume they play by symmetrical rules such as recruiting a point a year. Meanwhile we'll have this force of 3000 ready to fall on our backs whenever we do engage; our own forces are supposedly in the 4000 range at this point. I feel queasy at the anticipation of being surrounded and outnumbered, though it's considerably offset by our list of bonuses. It could work, but not my gut instinct. This is why fortresses are built: to slow or stop invaders. When we play as invaders we must respect their power.

(On the good news, the scale of this giant gives me hope the border forts we left intact are too small to matter.)

I would think that "assault" in this case means using as much of our Thundercats as possible to blow it open? Nobody with cannon to use should be so stupid as to just rush soldiers at a solid wall. Those of you who picked A + Thundercats might want to consider whether the word "siege" means just sitting around like we did before.

A If I'm wrong and this does use Thundercats hard it is the correct choice. If we just sit here, we haven't lost much of anything but time and we can expect another choice soon-ish.

Isn't that what I said? That they aren't recruiting at the same rate we do during wartime – in this case probably accelerated compared to us via special actions? Thus their rate of attrition is not trivial to deduce from reports of numbers in after-action reports as ours is.

They are using old 'peasant draft and mercs' system that was working waaaay back in early Luathbas (-happy for draftees, -eco for mercs).

B) Clearly we need to detach a siege force and continue on!
C) Clearly we need to continue the great siege of the great castle!
