If we're going to search for a wizard, and for an ethereal creature it may be necessary, we should begin as soon as possible.
We often get to try the other things while we wait for one to show up.

There are other adult relatives we could sacrifice employ too. Maybe we don't need a wizard? Send Leath's son Cyl from the dungeon. Tell him if he can defeat the ethereal octopus single-handed we'll hand over the crown. If he's strong-willed enough to rule he'll find a way.

Less than a week later, one is found wandering along the roads just north of the capital, and upon nagging of your courier, is sent to the palace.

The man is dressed in simple hooded robe of white beige fabric. His beard is long, soft and like snow in color. His two green eyes sparkle like emeralds.

"I have heard that this human society requires me services. I'm a servant of good, thus I have listened to the plea, and here I am, knowing what troubles you; it is Crystalwater Ironbeak, the servant of ether, who has wandered into your nation, and is causing destruction with its careless sleepwalking. But I also know how to solve your problems, yet you must know that my services are not for free. How shall I be paid, however, it is a question for you to answer, as you can see I need no riches nor material items in my life."

B) Offer him a magical item, The Rainbow Scepter, crafted by and infused with powerful Dwarven magics.
C) Offer him a Ducal title and ownership of a city, and even autonomy from your rule and freedom from taxation, if he so desires.
D) Admit that you do not know what to offer him, and therefore ask him to name his price.
E) Demand him to lend his services for free - because you're Emperor, and nobody refuses the Emperor!
