You decide to reach some sort of agreement. It turns out that Calahan III has written down a contract with the Gubta as 'King of Ceodwell' rather than using his regnal name to sign the papers. The Gubta, ever feeling exploitative, tried to impose the treaty on Ansbach (but he died, funny how that happens sometimes), and now are pursuing the closest they have to King of Ceodwell - and because Ceodwell is now yours, the Gubta decided to bother you.

Apparently, most of the money has been paid off, but there are still some leftovers, over which you try to negotiate.

You believe you might've accidentally insulted the Gubta Emperor himself during the negotiations. Pray heavens that the emissary, who stubbornly demands the full remainder of the debt to be paid, doesn't report that to his master.

Oh, the remainder of unpaid debt is equal to yearly amount of taxes Methiant acquires due to its high headcount as of late.

A) Fine, we can pay that.
B) That's too much, buzz off!

B - Ya See, we aren't King of Ceodwell. Ceodwell doesn't exist. We're King of Methiant. That's just more Methiant you travelled through to get here.

You agree to the demands of Gubta Emperor and let the envoy take the money. He accepts this but it is obvious he is rather angry about something.

Then the envoy from Margraviate of Ysirene is let in.

"Greetings, Cyl of Methiant! I'm here to announce that the Margrave of Ysirene has decided that the gold mines once owned by Calahan III of Ceodwell will be returned to you, provided you will send half of the gold bullion processed there to the Margrave's treasury for next five years."

A) "Fine, we will be profiting from this anyway."
B) "Can't we negotiate something else?"
C) "That mine is mine, and he better gives it back!"

He was going to take 3 years of gold, but now he's asking for two and a half?

Seems fair.
