I'm pessimistic about negotiation, though. I don't believe this 'Crusade' will be over and done as easily as our typical wars no matter if we continue to prevail in individual battles. The earlier offer was a non-starter, and I don't see why the senators'/priests' attitude will have changed given the numbers they still muster. Caius Cuscus may or may not be an okay guy (would they have put him back in command if our persuasion had stuck?) but he couldn't even make the thirty days truce stick, so I wouldn't roleplay any expectations about making a deal through him.

You send the envoys, and take the army to Eval!

Two weeks pass before your troops arrive at the border. Approximately three thousand Damdamians were left besieging the Evalian capital and surrounding keeps, while Caius Cuscus has marched forth to meet with you at the border. He is commanding almost forty thousand troops at the moment, majority of it being infantry.

Compared to your forces, they have an advantage of about six or seven thousand. Scouts report that almost twenty thousand Damdamians are currently camping within Rucus, and they've plenty of supplies and siege engines with them ready.

Next morning, your scouts report that the vanguard of Caius' army has been spotted. The battle will commence within hours at best!

A) But there will be no battle, as we will retreat deeper into Methiant!
B) Attack! Attack! Attack! We smash into his center and scatter it into the winds!
C) Time to do the usual trick and deploy on favorable ground, then let them die upon our mighty wall of soldiers!
D) Let's strike his flank with our men, then envelop and destroy his columns into brilliant tactical maneouver!

D - He has primarily infantry. They will not be able to redeploy to counter a cavalry attack from the flank before we disengage and strike somewhere else.
