You set camp for now, preparing for the inevitable coming of the next attack.

Two more days pass and you receive a report; the main Damdamian army has turned westwards and has entered Eval, joining the troops pillaging there.

A fresh army of almost eight thousand - half of it cavalry - has been spotted by your spies and riders in the borderlands of Rucus.

The officers gather to discuss the situation.

A) We go liberate Eval from the evil clutches of the Damdamians!
B) We strike the Rucusian soil to prevent the coming of reinforcements!
C) We march to Evalian borders, and then wait.
D) We retreat towards the central Methiant for now.

Winning the initial skirmish by 1200 counts for nothing if they reinforce with 8000; the larger army with depleted cavalry will have a harder time turning to catch us from behind than this fresh one would if we strike the other way.

A Rucus is still officially uninvolved in the war, if we attack them we risk incurring the wrath of Lametania and Eldrican.

A. As much as I want to say B I don't think we can take Rucus and Lametania on top of the crusaders, and there's a chance Eldrican gets involved that way too.

This does not mean declaring war on Rucus. Just taking a battle on their soil. As much the fault of the crusaders as our own.

I'm not that worried about 8000 men coming from Rucus. We recently invested in superior border forts. They are going to have to waste alot of time and manpower fucking with those before they can really hurt us.

1217 AD, Mid-Autumn

The two armies meet again on the first day of the Mid-Autumn, after you finish re-capturing some smaller settlements and a border keep from the drunk and complacent Damdamian soldiers.

Your spies bring you important news; Caius Cuscus is absent, and the crusading army is led by Armin Acacius, a young Republican commander.

The scouts bring you strategic info; the Damdamians have learned of your approach and managed to occupy a hillside, with infantry and artillery in the middle and small cavalry forces at their flanks. Their numbers are estimated at twelve thousand troops.

A) We camp, and wait for them to come. Surely they will lose patience and abandon their advantage.
B) We shall spread out widely to strike at them from front and flanks simultaneously!
C) Sure, they can have the hills. In the meanwhile, I will go and recapture some more castles and villages!
D) We move in one large force, and we shall grind their center to dust in one big strike supported by artillery and cavalry.

C. We need to do it anyway and attacking a numerically superior force that's also got better positioning than us is probably not such a good idea. Let's force them to come to us.
