You thank the Spymaster for the news, but decide not to act upon them.

Next you meet with the merchant princes.

They bemoan their losses and the unprofitable trade of t'chai with the westerners. The prices are too low to make a profit, and those who pay a lot quickly demand refunds because they find the quality of leaves lacking. The royal court of Eldrican and its merchants are very stringent with taxation and they always find new ways to pester your own merchants.

The bunch is very loud and obnoxious, so you wouldn't find it unbelievable if their customers are just fed up with their babblings mouths.

"In conclusion, the trade with Eldrican was a failure, Emperor!" One of their leaders cries out loud.

A) "Then sell more to the peoples of Methiant."
B)  "Fret not, for my diplomats will find you a better place to sell your imported leaves at."
C) "I will send a letter to my cousins in Eldrican to discuss this matter."
D) "Then I will inform Emperor Mahjar Sim that we do not need as much t'chai leaves as before."

You decide to promise the merchants that your diplomats will find them some other nation to sell surplus t'chai leaves to.

Three nights later, you're waken up by startled guards. Damdamians have invaded Empire of Methiant!

Banners of Damedia, Damdamian Republic, Cadia and Spania flutter above the heavy infantry with melee weaponry and firetubes. There's light cavalry armed with Fireblood weapons and heavy lancers, plated in shiny steel from their heads to hooves of their mounts. Large siege engines using Fireblood are towed behind the columns, although its seems Damdamians they have much less of smaller pieces that would be used against infantry formation.

As the chandeliers are lit up and the war council commences, the exhausted messengers bring more news; the forces in Rucus rushed into Duchy of Eval, destroying settlements and besieging numerous fortifications. About half of their numbers however are marching alongside the border with Lametania, no doubt to invade Methiantese soil proper.

Battle plans are set in motion, and there are two answers you have to give, one to the Diplomatic Corps, the other to the Marshal.

First, who do you call for help?

A) None, Empire of Methiant stands strong!
B) The Dwarves.
C) Eldrican Kingdom.
D) Kingdom of Helliste.

Secondly, do you want to fight personally?

A) No, I will stay at the capital.
B) Get me my sword already!

Hiring the dwarves will be costly, but is our best chance of keeping Eldrican out of the war, as Eldrican has good relations with them. If we pay the dwarves to garrison our Western border, our wicked cousin would have to fight through his own friends to get to us.

Also, no option to send our genius Martial uncle? It looks like there are two fronts. We could use two generals.

If we are going to pay the dwarves' price, let's put them in an actual battle. If we just want to give away money it might be cheaper to bribe Eldrican directly.
