Re: Project PROMETHEUS: Supernatural Arms Race Phase 1/10 ~Merry Christmas~
« Reply #585 on: January 06, 2018, 03:04:17 pm »

Boy all that, uh, charity work, studying, and not goofing off sure took up a lot of my time.

SLUDG HOSE Police Issue:
Effectiveness: 5+1! Above Average effectiveness!
Cost: 6-1! Special Cost!
Complications: 10-1! Unreliable, Sabotage, Minor Supply Raids

The simplification of the H.O.S.E system goes reasonably well. The unit functions properly, and can be sold for more then it costs to produce. The problem comes in from the supply lines, while many of our police and military contacts have shown interest in purchasing units for trial, we don't have a steady source of buyers. This means that, at any given point, we may see a significant drop in income from this project as simply nobody is purchasing them. Even worse, the channels we are using to sell these weapons is not nearly as secure as it should be. Enemy infiltrators have likely gotten wind of our plan, and will take steps to undermine us. In the best case, they will sabotage the units, so that we will be out the production cost and possibly any destruction the sabotage causes. In the worst case, they will steal the supplies themselves...meaning we are out the cost and the enemies have their hands on one of our most effective weapons. These cases should be relatively rare, but the possibility is troubling.

Mechanics: Every Production phase, a d20 will be rolled. This is multiplied by your cost modifier (currently 0.75), and you receive that amount of Resources. Effectiveness controls the amount of product sold, while Cost controls the production cost. Reducing cost and raising Effectiveness increases your modifier and the dice used, respectively. Due to your complications, low rolls with result in no income. Critically low rolls will result in a loss of income. This system can be turned on or off during the production phase.

LAST CHRISTMAS
Effectiveness: 9+1! AMAZING EFFECTIVENESS! There is almost certainly something wrong with these dice!
Cost: 10-1! 17R. Most certainly rigged.
Complications: 10-1! Collateral Damage, Volatile, Detention Failure

Our grenade launchers continue to be one of our most successful products. As with the weapon itself, the specialist rounds are very capable of doing a large amount of damage quickly. They do, however, carry the same issues as the launcher's standard grenades. If hit, they explode, and when they explode they turn everything they hit into an unusable mess. There is naturally an exception to the rule with the C.H.E.E.R grenade, due to its lack of damaging capabilities. Finally, attempts to remedy this problem lead to a new one. Occasionally, these grenades will fail to detonate when they are meant to. It is a fairly rare phenomena, though anything striking the explosive will cause it to explode normally.

May as well do whatever to buy a spellbook and then go fight some stuff.

Imma want to give the gem to someone. We gotta have a sane lady soldier somewhere. Well, I guess we might not have any sane soldiers, but, well, we can hope...

Well, guess we've got some work to do.

The Laundry List:
-Mix a new batch of SLUDG that uses a slightly different dissolving compound, and then equip soldiers with aerosol cans of the old compound we use for the police issue HOSEs so we don't have to worry too much about having it used against us.
-Alternatively, just turn the HOSE market off until we can fix the robbery issue.
-Look into making LAST CHRISTMAS less terrible. (We could consider just re-submitting the design and having all the stats re-rolled. I do love a 9 effectiveness, but jeez.)

For now, I like RAM's plan, the question is what kind of spellbook should we deploy?

The one we designed, the, uhh...
Quote
Judicious Employment of Deadly Immolation and Immobilization
Taking all our knowledge of magic and condensing it back into a single small-sized tome of deadly knowledge called 'JEDI' was a genius step. The 'wizards' who utilize these books are trained only in the fire and ice sections. Ice first, followed by fire, in order of 'What damage can be reversed easiest and cheapest'. No soldiers have yet been taught how to use necromancy---doing so might endanger the use of Excalibur. Also, Public Relations almost went into open revolt at the mention of the possibility.

We indeed have female soldiers available for deployment.

It is a known cost which can be limited. So long as they don;t walk into a berserk bloodrage without warning they should be able to handle it. The blood requirements should be easy enough to handle, and I can;'t see the soldier complaining about some unpleasant meals considering the physical upgrades. To me at least it seems like the downsides are pretty much nullified by knowing about them in advance. But I guess we could try to glue it to a book and see what spells it can make or something...

First off, knowing the probable effects isn't the same as knowing what, exactly, it will do to our soldiers.

Second off, shouldn't we have 235 R, not just 35?
