First, I don't think you need to worry about carving in something "too valuable"; by definition, it will become more valuable after carving!

Second, be adopted by cat (in shadow behind pillar).

Second, be adopted by cat (in shadow behind pillar).

You carve near the cat who seems to have some sort of allergy problem.

Near the completion of your cheese you hear someone shout behind you.

Quickly begin to play our instrument and dance, in hopes that he'll forget about what he's mad about.

Hey, you're back! Awesome.

Throw the cat at him as your explanation.

This man is practically invulnerable from the waist up, and he's party central from the waist down.

*checks again*

He is wearing no pants and one boot. If we must flee (presumably after deploying cat-turemeasures), try to locate whichever party THAT guy came from.

New plan: Throw the cat, kick the guard in the dick, take the shield, get the hell out of dodge and go forth in search of new adventures. Become the kobold legend you were meant to be.

We could take that shield and just get the hell out of the fortress and become a kobold god. Of course, no matter how wasted that guy is, there's probably almost no chance that we'll actually be able to get it and get out, plus an adamantite shield is kinda useless because a wooden shield can block just as well. That being said, however, considering our size we could probably just tie the shield to our back and become virtually impenetrable from that side. We'd probably lose all semblance of stealth with a blue, shiny dish on our back though, so maybe we could cover it in dirt to make it look like an old must iron shield? At this point I don't really know, unless that guy is so plastered that he sees five of us I don't really think it's worth giving the fortress a legitimate reason to kill us.

So a member of fortress militia then? Just tell him there's a siege outside and he'll proceed to Get Provisions, Sleep and Get Equipment and will probably have forgotten our hapless artist by then.
