I apologize for the equipment list taking so long.  It's proving to be a bit of a bitch in order to find information on what equipment the Russian and Ottoman Empires were using at the time.  Closest thing I've yet found in terms of a main infantry weapon is this Russian rifled musket from 1867.  Well, at least on Wikipedia that is the absolute closest I could find.  I did manage to locate a Russian musket from 1845, the M1945 Percussion Musket, but information is still limited at best, and I still don't have anything on the Ottomans.

Admittedly, there might be more details on a Russian site, but I don't understand Russian.

Oh, quick and pertinent question, which measurement system do you want to use?  The Byzantine, the Ottoman, or the Russian?  The placement of the nation means exposure to the metric and imperial systems would be nonexistent.  Given the 'final remanants of the Roman Empire' bent that I was thinking of using, the first may be most relevant, but I want to give options based upon the two major neighbors.

I vote Russian. It seems to be the closest to what we're used to.

sazhen: 2 meteres, 7 feet

kruzhka: 4/3 liters, 3 pints

funt: 1/2 kilogram, 1 pound

That should be relevant, and all we need.

Or, OR, for fun, we could use metric (We're an advanced warring nation, OK?). That way, none of us lose our minds over constant conversions. It'd be even worse that chemistry class. At least in chemistry, you had a reason to convert things.

I can't help but feel that I have heard "byzantine" used as an adjective to describe needlessly complicated to the point of inducing sanity. Am I correct in this?

We're starting in 1860. Maybe we got some exiled military advisers from France twenty years earlier, introducing the metric system, and therefore our designs use metric.

This way, we don't use our minds with a byzantine (and possibly Byzantine) measurement system.

Yes. See also my pun above.

As a minor point of reference, the smallest Byzantine unit is .768 inches.

Set to using the Russian Measurement system, due to Metric not being an option due to metrification still being a long way off for your region of the world.  I can convert stuff for you if you have questions.  OP is updated and the threads are up.  Feel free to begin.

Can we look at one another's threads?

No, as doing so would eliminate the struggle of two bureaucratic entities thinking in different directions and the remove the subsequent conflicts that would erupt.
