You decide to prioritize hunting for advanced technology, or at least for worlds with inexplicable abnormalities for the scientists to poke at.

After a few missed dials and a couple of inhospitable and rather mundane worlds, you finally dial into a gem. It's not exactly a paradise, the gate drone identifies the local area as a tundra with a windchill factor several dozen degrees below zero, but the atmosphere is human compatible if not human friendly.

More importantly, there's a steady signal that can be picked up immediately. It's in the ELF range, but has a distinct and repeating pattern. The only trouble is that signal triangulation shows the source to be about 1200 klicks from the gate.

A- Send a pair of fully outfitted SG teams with all-terrain vehicles, towing rig, full weather kit, mobile shelters, and enough equipment to do preliminary analysis on whatever they find.
B- Send a recon scout pair on light but fast vehicles to go get eyes on the source and report back.
C- Send a single SG team with parkas, tinned food, a single vehicle, and an insulated tent. They're Australian, they're used to hostile environments.
D- Mark the site, but move on. 1200 kilometers is too far for a maybe.

You decide to mount a full on expedition in order to find the source of the signal. Due to unknown geography and climate patterns, a dialing pattern is set up so that the SG teams can send back regular status updates.

The SG teams sent to investigate the signal report easy progress. Snowstorms cleared up hours after they left and allowed easy travel. They've already reached the source of the signal, a metal about the size of a buick and the shape of a teardrop- embedded point first into the ground. They'll commence work immediately to determine what it is and whether it can be brought back to the SGC.

That does mean you should probably get the labs prepared, which brings up an interesting point. Due to the strenuous objections the form head of Research (not a plant biologist) vocalized to General Lachlan's holding pattern, you need a new head of Research.

Thankfully, the directors of the Stargate program have narrowed your choices down to a handful of dossiers. They're some of the brightest and best minds in their fields, with the associated... eccentricities.

B! High-Energy Fields sounds like it has a ton of potential. Robotics is cool and all, but it's less exotic and won't be as helpful to our field teams. High-Energy fields, on the other hand...
Also, a mad scientist is clearly the only way to go.
